The stand is worth it for the viewing angle and the powerpoles. It also does a great job at cooling. The engineering of this unit has evolved a bit since it's introduction, and some of it does appear as an afterthought, but it is a very practical accessory to the G90.

Congrats - that's a lot of rig in a small package. If you ever decide to expand, look for the new DE-19 instead of the CE-19. Best solution for this rig and FT-8 and the XPA125B amplifier. Skip the GSOC no matter how tempting it looks.

I do most of my work at 10w these days, so the 20 on the G90 is a luxury! The g90's built in tuner is also fabulous! It's a great starter rig that will last you until you get the itch for a replacement

The stand is a must after having played with the G90. It's a great add-on. It adds a bit of weight (I was honestly shocked by how hot the entire rig was when I got it!) but definitely not enough to worry about. I love the legs on it as well, so it raises the viewing angle. Great over all for G90 owners.

If you are going to do serious FT8, then the digirig or the de-19 should be good. I have both and I need to test them out. But the cooling fan is a must if you want 20w out of it

Does it need the cooling really, does it melt or going to shutoff fot thermal protection at some point? So you cooled the radio with ... a fan. Big deal. Try schlepping that up a mountain to do a SOTA activation, with the extra batteries required to power the fan. Here's an idea for SOTA: drop the fan, keep output power to a max 10W or 15W, use a sun-shade and use the radio in a position where the air/breeze can get to it. Works every time.

Cool video. (pun intended) At about 5:18 the audio volume dropped a lot. I'm getting a huge number of videos with volume that's too low for me to hear. Almost everyone who replies to a comment from me about the volume on their videos say they see no problem. I'm only trying to find out if someone else has the same volume drop on this video at about the same amount of video run time. If no one else has a volume drop on this video at about the 5:18 mark it's only happening on my end. All I'm hoping to accomplish by making the volume being low comments on so many videos is to find out how to solve my issue. NOT every video I watch has volume too low to hear. On some videos I can turn the volume down and still comfortable hear the audio. All my computers have the same issue on the same videos. I have really good hearing. Sorry to be a pest. I just want to solve my audio hearing problem. Oh, I also have this same issue on YT movies.

It should have a temperature probe on it, is it not working? If it doesn't have the probe, would be a fun project to add one.

Not trying to be a dick but the hot air needs to be removed ASAP and as fans work best top to bottom or left to right, your method cuts that route out. Get an old laptop cooler, turn it around and you have an efficient cooler and a better viewing angle, hope this helps, 73

I didn't design the radio with zero cooling built in. I didn't design the fan stand, although it does have legs (which you can see in the thumbnail) to get the airflow that you're demanding of me for some reason. I also demonstrated in the video that the temperature rises and then when I turn on the fan the temperature drops. Looks like you just want to argue instead of look at the actual proof that this works. Have fun. @@surak1841

Does the G90 run hot when only on SSB?
@temporarilyoffline2 жыл бұрын
No, not at all. It's just a duty cycle thing and ft8 is pretty hard on radios at full power for 15 seconds and then off for 15 seconds. With SSB, you'll rarely hit full power for more than a second.
