It's disgusting to me what little recognition the Wire has had since it came out. True, it's more popular now and yea people do love the show, but the fact that it was cancelled after season 3 due to poor ratings is insane to me. I truly believe this is the greatest TV show ever created because it tells stories that NEEDED to be told. Not just for the sake of entertainment but to inform everyone of these realities that exist for so many people all over the world. Really well put together video, man. The Wire was just art man. The most well-crafted show ever made IMO. Whoever was in charge of casting deserves all the awards as well, this was one of the most well-casted shows ever and whoever was able to see all these people in their auditions and know the exact characters they would be good to play is a legend.
@loudnclearvoiceovers4141 Жыл бұрын

I understand what you are trying to say, but The Wire was art imitating the life of people in Baltimore. The wire is basically scripted from real events and people in Baltimore during a certain time period. Like anything else the actual characters and natives are exploded by the industry and firmer. and they are the ones who don't get the credit. Baltimore crime figures acted and consulted The Wire on how crimes occurred, who was who, and how the streets move. The police and Producers only know what the streets tell them, they don't have a clue on how things are done. Both are clueless and depend on snitches and informants for material or evidence. But I do with a collaborative effort of all parties, The Wire is one of the best REAL ALLEY shows on earth. Especially, since I'm familiar with the real characters portrayed, some of the real characters playing themselves and many of the Baltimore actors on the show.

I can't watch other crime shows featuring a police perspective anymore because of The Wire. Over the course of five seasons, there's basically three investigations: Avon's crew and his takeover of the high rises, the shipping container full of dead girls, and Marlo's takeover of the New Day co-op. But all three investigations are connected ultimately to a single case: the enigmatic Greek. The five seasons plays out over five years on the show. At the end, the police realize they were investigating only one group and the different gangs/cartels were linked. That's often how investigations go in real life. Sometimes, an investigation can last over a decade as hundreds of witnesses are interviewed, thousands of pieces of evidence are cataloged and stored, even more hours of surveillance and going over hours of video/audio, etc. etc. and so on and so forth. Joseph Pistone (a.k.a. Donnie Brasco) infiltrated the Sicilian Mafia in New York and spent six years undercover is one example. Then you have these cop shows where they solve new murders each week and investigations with trials take only a few days. Yeah, no. Law enforcement wishes it were that good lmao

Cool facts. Avon Barksdale is a real individual. Real life it was either Marlo and Stringer were real partners or Marlo and Avon. It wouldn't had been hard to take straight from Avon's life story, instead of using the Preacher's story. But good work brother I enjoyed the the recap.

It's really hard to imagine any of these characters being played by some one else. Like Lance Riddick as Bubbles, but he played a cop turned drug addict in Oz so probably felt like that role might suit. Again, how could any of these characters be played by someone other than who played them but then the actor brings out the character so who knows, those switch ups might have worked. But whatever it is the casting was amazing and will live on a being the greatest TV show ever.

I'm glad Sonya Sohn pulled through and that they wrote her in for more. Show was pretty lean on parts for women. Great show though. Thanks for the video. 👍

Actually an HBO exec demanded that they keep Soin's character alive on the show. Simon confirmed that himself.

lol auditioning to play yourself but not getting the part is hilarious. Makes sense based on age though, still greatest show ever.

Sonja grew up in Newport News where Police brutality is unfortunately fairly common.

I always thought that is there is connection between 'The Wire', 'OZ' and 'Homicide: Life on the Streets'. All gems in my book.
