great video, i am the owner of a 12ft aluminum boat, and as far as projects i would defiantly recommend sticking to fiberglass.

Why is that?

because aluminum corrodes, is sharp, and is a pain to get screws out of. @@Dailyfiver

Thank you for making this video. It saved me from making a probably real expensive mistake. I was looking at a old cabin cruiser that’d been sitting a while and was in poor condition. The floor was ok-ish the transom was toast and the hull had some shotty repairs in the past. I offered him $400 because the only good part was the smooth running 454 it had, still waiting to hear back about it.

You should follow up with the educational costs. A common boat lower in value could be a better educational investment than a resale investment.

I bought a similar boat many years ago as my first boat. It cost about 2k at the time. Forward and reverse had a linkage issue and it went to the shop for $1200. Another $600 at a different shop I believe. $3600 into it and then I was told it had overheated and needed some major work. I sold it as is for $1k. I only had it on the lake a few times, maybe a week of fun all in all. Boat covers, fuel, keeping rain water out of it, new parts here and there, boat insurance. Was it worth it? It's worth it to your friends who get a free boat ride. Also, my truck transmission likely went out from pulling it around.

Bought and fixed up allot of boats in my life. And in different sizes. Excellent video advise. Many dont think of doing what you've explained. Both buyers...and sellers. Most in all honesty, don't do it prior to trying to sell it. Great video. Sub'd

You're totally right. It's only worth it if you plan on keeping the boat and you want a quality boat when you're done. You will never recover your money.

And re-sale value is not more than maybe $6K, and that's a stretch

So what brands are considered to be well-built boats? Is there a top, stand-out brand in boats?
@Old_Sailor853 жыл бұрын
Yes, but it varies depending on the boats intended use, Fishing (flats, reefs, open water, bass, etc.), cruising, skiing, etc. They are all expensive to repair, so buy a better brand.

If you want to end up with ten thousand bucks flipping boats-- start with twenty thousand. Not saying it can't be done, just that it takes a LOT of knowledge and effort. And a crap boat like a Bayliner, will never not be a Bayliner.

Thanks for the info. I know nothing about boats but looking to get one this style, found one with torn seats which is fine but the guy said the floor is fully solid, trailer comes with new tires. More than likely it needs a rebuild and it'll take some money. If it's an outboard you would just be better off replacing it

@@johncrockett7044 I agree. If it were an inboard, a new engine would cost more than what the boat is worth

oddly, this Bayliner had a 5.0 V8 from General Motors.. with a upgrade to the vortec heads, the 5.0 is worth almost as much as the entire boat, if the boat were in 'good' condition..
