Thank you so much for your tutorials. Can you tell me if there is information about the gemstones that can be heated with the torch, when we heated the piece.

Hi Tania, we recommend checking out our Gemstone Firing Guide. It has a complete list of gemstones and what temperature they can withstand for how long. You can find it here: www.cooltools.us/v/vspfiles/assets/images/Article-Gemstones_In_Metal_Clay.pdf

Can you blow torch instead of using a kiln please?
@cooltoolsvideos3 жыл бұрын
Hi, we don't recommend torch firing with glass, but you can torch fire the clay. You can torch fire Art Clay Silver: www.cooltools.us/Art-Clay-Silver-Clay-p/acs-107-p.htm and PMC: www.cooltools.us/PMC-3-Silver-Metal-Clay-p/pmc-508-p.htm Hope this helps!

Very interesting demo! Do have the approx. gram weight of the EZ960 used? I'm sure it varies, but I'd like to figure out an approximate cost to make for the PMC. Thanks! Louise
@cooltoolsvideos8 жыл бұрын
Hi Louise, Lisel approximates she used about 10 grams of EZ960. Thanks for the great question!

Hello from Switzerland! Great job! Your pieces look amazing! Could you show us how you fired and finished the pieces? If this technique is in another video that I didn't watch yet, just let me know. Thanks for sharing! Ana.
@cooltoolsvideos8 жыл бұрын
Hi Ana! Lisel fired the pieces according to the EZ960™ instructions. She fired the pieces on a raised kiln shelf at 1675°F for 2 hours. After, the pieces were put into the tumbler for a couple hours and patinaed with Cool Tools Patina Gel. Thank you for the question!

I am new. Is this fired in a regular kiln? or in a ?
@cooltoolsvideos2 жыл бұрын
Hi Marsha, yes - this is fired in a kiln. There are many table top metal clay kilns available, you can find them here: www.cooltools.us/Kilns-s/1745.htm If you are interested in learning more about metal clay, check out our learning center here: www.cooltools.us/Learning-Center-s/2329.htm

Beautiful! did you cut a small hole underneath the stone as well? I noticed that when you showed the back of the pendant there was one there. Or did the punch do that for you? Thank you for sharing.
@cooltoolsvideos8 жыл бұрын
Hi Dharlee... Lisel uses the metal clay punch to make the hole. Thank you for your question! Here is a link to the products used in the video: www.cooltools.us/Romancing-the-Stone-Pendant-by-Lisel-Crowley-s/2512.htm

I'd like to do these with natural semi-precious gems like labradorite, quartz, amazonite, larimar, etc... do you think they would stand the heat?

Hi Selene, below is a link to our gemstone firing guide. This guide shows which gemstones can be fired and at what temperature and hold time. Good luck! www.cooltools.us/v/vspfiles/assets/images/Article-Gemstones_In_Metal_Clay.pdf

I am going to shop the tools, it looks so good, MAY I ask you if I can make silver beads in this way and put the middle hole before firing, Does that will shrink or not?
@cooltoolsvideos7 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, you would have to account for shrinkage would creating the hole. I recommend watching the video below on creating silver beads. The tools used are listed below the video. Hope this helps! Here's the link: www.cooltools.us/Hollow-Bead-using-Wood-Clay-by-Lisel-Crowley-s/2583.htm

Beautiful tutorial thanks! I'm wondering if this tutorial would work with PMC+ ? (whether it would be strong enough for this design) thanks!

Hi Vica, we asked Lisel her opinion on this and she replied: It probably could be but I do prefer EZ960 for it. I don't work with pmc but I think it will be ok. Hope this helps!

Hi ! Great video. Could you tell us which jewel stamp you used in this project ? Thank you!
@cooltoolsvideos8 жыл бұрын
Hi Lucy, it is not a jewel stamp that was used but a rollable texture tile called "flower party fineline" Here is a link to our website that includes that video and all of the products used in the video listed below: www.cooltools.us/SearchResults.asp?Cat=2512 Thank you for your question!

Can this piece be torch fired as well?
@cooltoolsvideos8 жыл бұрын
Hi Jennifer, thank you for the question. Torch firing is not recommended with EZ960 as it will not give your piece the strength compared to firing in a kiln. If you would like to torch fire this piece, we recommend using another clay.

Hi MonicaI have only used ez960 but I can tell you your kiln is definitely firing too hot. The only thing you can do with the melted piece is save it with your scrap, etc. and when you accumulate enough, send to a refiner. That Was a beautiful design. There are directions on cooltools for testing your kiln with a pyrometer. You should also fire a test strip before making another piece to be sure you have the firing schedule correct. You could also make the piece using fine silver clay. Good luck.
@liselcrowley90158 жыл бұрын
This type of piece can be made using fine silver clay. I don't recommend pmc because of the high shrinkage. I prefer art clay silver for any stone setting projects if I'm working in fine silver. I just put my pieces on the naked shelf. Your piece was melted. It is nothing wrong with the construction of the piece, or the way you placed the piece in the kiln, the problem was in the firing. you have to determine the proper firing schedule in your kiln and then you will be fine. My firing schedule is not what you need to know. Your kiln will be different and I am not sure which clay you will be using. You need to find the right schedule for your particular kiln and the actual clay you are using. I do not know how to help you with the cz. If it has a film, it is likely you didn't clean it properly before firing. All czs must be cleaned with alcohol before firing. I use many refiners. You can search online to find one close to you.
