I am new to enamelling and metal clay this has answered so many of my questions ,

Although I don't use metal clay (yet?), I do use polymer clay and you have given me some valuable information and some new ideas of things to try on my jewelry. I've gotten many texture sheets and templates from Cool Tools and have always been pleased with the fast service and the quality of the items I've purchased, so adding ideas has proven to be even more valuable. Thank you!

I loved this video! Pam takes the mystery out of enameling and it certainly doesn't look as intimidating as I thought. I'm just dipping my toe into pmc and I'm really enjoying the tutorials Cool Tools offer. Thanks so much! Now off to learn about tumbling.

Is it possible to solder the chain links next to the pendant without damaging the enamel?
@cooltoolsvideos6 жыл бұрын
Hi Carol, this is possible; however there is always a risk of the enameling discoloring or cracking. We would recommend using an easy solder for this. Have a good day!

@@cooltoolsvideos There are various kinds of "blankets" to protect gemstones when soldering near them. Would those work with enamels, too?

Hello i wonder if this work can be done with a torch? thanks Mónica
@cooltoolsvideos8 жыл бұрын
Hello, we asked Pam East your question and she said: "I am not an expert in torch enameling. I know people DO torch enamels, but it tends to impart a more “rustic” look. It doesn’t generally come out as clean and neat as kiln firing. The thing about torch firing is it usually needs to be bottom fired, not top fired. Top firing causes the enamel to ball up and/or scorch. But the project DOES need counter enamel to keep it from cracking and chipping off. I’m not sure how to accomplish all that with a torch." We hope this helps!

What tumbling media do you use, is regular stainless steel shot ok?
@cooltoolsvideos8 жыл бұрын
Hello, yes. The tumbling media that was used is stainless steel shot in a Lortone Tumbler. Thanks for the question!

Can I do this project with sterling silver sheet?

Hi Deborah, we always recommend enameling on fine silver, not sterling silver. Hope this helps!

@@cooltoolsvideos Why no Klyr-Fire on the front? She used the Scotchbrite pad on the back, too, and used it there.

This is such a beautiful piece, Pam, and I love how easy it is to fire around the flower! The pendant you are wearing is spectacular, too. Is that enameled as well? If you wanted to enamel the flower instead of the background (or any part of any other design), is that possible? Would you use the same brush technique? Would you still need counter enamel? Or are there better ways to apply color to selected parts of a piece, especially if you wanted to preserve its detailing?
@cooltoolsvideos5 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Pam’s not at the studio right now but I’ll do my best to answer in her place. The pendant she is wearing is enameled as well, it’s a real beauty! You could enamel the raised area instead; it just might prove tricky to keep the enamel on the raised area and from flowing down into the low areas. Since the enamel is suspended in liquid, it’s going to naturally want to flow into low areas. You might have to spend some time with a brush nudging away stray particles and pushing them back to the raised area. You could use the same brush technique, I would just recommend using less water so you have more control. Also, you could try brushing on Klyr-Fire or Glycerin to select areas where you would like the enamel to stick, sifting on the enamel, and then turning the piece upside down. The enamel should fall off of the metal where there wasn’t Klyr-Fire or Glycerin for it to stick to. I would still advise applying a counter enamel. -Karen
