Learn how to form metal clay jewelry pieces into a domed shape either before or after firing. Before firing use doming forms to shape the wet clay. After firing use dapping blocks.
Dapping blocks and drying forms can be found on Amazon.

I would love to see a video on supporting formed pieces during firing, particularly bronze and copper, as I imagine it will be trickier due to the need for it to be surrounded by activated carbon.

Thanks for the informative video Pam, it answered a question I had as if you can dome a fired piece after firing and I see that's a yes! My other question is: can you solder on a jump ring, bail or bezel cup after firing? I'm thinking yes but wonder if there are any special considerations? Metal gauge, solder type etc.

Glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, you can solder on to it without a problem. The only special consideration is the porosity of metal clay. Be sure to burnish the area to be soldered well so the solder doesn't just soak in. I've soldered onto metal clay many times with great success!

Does it matter if the Easter egg has a hole in it? All the ones I saw this year have holes in the rounder end.

I've noticed too that more recent plastic easter eggs are thinner and have holes in them. But my experience has been it doesn't matter at all. i'm just laying the clay over the form and a small hole makes no difference.

What if I want to form a slight dome in the opposite direction with the design side being slightly curved? How do I do that without distorting my design?
@PamEast
@PamEast Жыл бұрын
Two ways. One, lay the piece to dry the dapping block instead of on the dome. That will curve it the other way. Two, just place it face down on the dome. I do think all the time. The clay is very elastic and will hold the design provided you don't press too hard.

I am just beginning my silver clay adventure. Is this silver considered sterling? I know people will ask me that, and I want to be prepared to answer them. TIA for responding.

It's Fine Silver. Sterling is 92.5% silver, 7.5% copper. Fine Silver is 99.9% Silver.
