For even more control go from singles to adding 1 double and then 2 doubles and so on down the line until everything but the back beat on the snare is a double.

Those are basically the same as "hot rods", they're a different company, I can't remember which one at the moment, but it's the same idea: a bundle of thin bamboo sticks for practice/low volume playing. Thanks for the comment!
