Just about do this on an R55 clubman. Did you have to glue the headliner back to the roof? At 17.23 you said “reached through the sunroof and pulled it down, and the glue broke loose”. This is the part I’m asking about. Thanks I understand this was a long time ago and you might not remember but no harm in asking.

Thanks so much for this video, very informative and detailed! I fixed the front drains in my mini s like you showed without taking the whole headliner off but I’ve found some water leaking in right behind the driver’s seat in the footwell for the rear seat. Is there a drain that comes down the b pillar that you didn’t show or do you think this water might be a separate issue?

Its probably the drain.

Thank you, but as a previous commenter asked, what about a back leak? Water that actually comes down the back pillars and collects in the back hatch floor and under the back seats. Is there a drain back there?

I think there are front and rear drains. I know this for a fact on Vw's. But less frequently work on Minis.

Nice! Fixed mine without removing headliner. Just dropped visers trim ring etc. Both rubber tube's were disconnected from opposite end. Put back & zip tied. I've had three r53's. My advice is unless you are VERY good with mechanical knowledge/good with your hands. Or extremely wealthy! Don't buy one!!!!! Awesome fun cars, but very undependable!!!!! Best sport car ever!!!! (When they're running) 😂

Did the headliner removal without taking off the C pillars. Just unclip them completely. Took out the rear and passenger seats then slide the headliner forward and down sideways. There will be very slight bending on ends taking out the headliner . Hope this helps.

Also remove the tailgate door seal for easier removal .

Those come off when mechanics unknowingly try cleaning the drains with an air hose.

Awesome Job! Going to attempt this on my 05 base. I see you had problems with the Pillars. When you re-installed the headliner, did you have an issue putting the pillars back? Especially the one in the rear with the pink and black strap?

going back together was easier than coming apart because at that point I knew how it assembled. Coming apart I wasn't sure.

A lot of time they blow air through the drain tubes to clear them out and it blows them off! Had water coming out of the side pillar with the air bag logo is Got to be that tube off, mine is a 2010 Water leaked down and got into the foot well module now my lights have a mind of there own and kill my battery when I'm not looking.

Yea, I may have even said as much in the video, but I know this happens a lot on the Vw's that I work on more frequently. One of the commenters I believe said that air pressure from driving down the road causes them to blow off. That seems like a likely explanation.
