I've played guitar for 40 years and have been listenting to Johnny for 45 years and he still blows my mind. A master and they'll never be another Johnny Winter. There's only a handful of guitarists you can say that about!

I'm lucky to have been alive and to have seen Johnny Winter over 30 times, I actually stopped keeping track after 30, I may have seen him closer to 40 times in 70s 80s 90s no matter how he appears here, Johnny Winter was the best, and his playing here is still better than most.. Johnny Winter RIP

If the world were going to learn the many ways to play "pure blues"...Johnny would be the "ultimate professor." I've seen him 7 times and in my opinion...he is the "master!" I've never seen him even come close to making a mistake. He can do it all...including "acoustic blues!"

I have been a huge Johnny and Edgar Winter fan for over 40 years. Spent 20 + years on the road playin' some ol' blues myself. My parents went to their deathbeds blaming the Winter Bros. for my not being a successful lawyer or some other low life job like that. So thankful for the inspiration they alone gave me. Also, It did not hurt at all when SRV revived the trio blues concept. I saw J W cover the Clapton Crossroads note for note the day after High School Grad. '73, Hampton VA. A big thrill!

For those making hateful remarks about Mr.Winter and his band, Hes got more raw talent, staying power and pure soul than 90% of these auto tuned products of studios of late will EVER have..Hes been clean off hard drugs for years (which he took care of on his own-not some manager) and has partied harder w more big names than most that have came and went in his time..He doesn't have "to drag his ass out to play" or "rely on his past" A real musician craves new music and playing it for others..The younger generation should learn from this legend before they bash him..

Johnny was in rare form here. Regardless of the opinion of some posting here. I did see a concert around 2008? in Royal Oak Mich where he was under the weather. I had read that he was recovering from a broken hip. I believe that he may have doubled down on his pain meds. The bass player would occasionally go over and nudge him when he was drifting off. Saw him again 3 years later in Flint Michigan and took my son. He tore it up that night. In my opinion he is playing well here, regardless of the opinion of some comments to the contrary posted here. RIP John Dawson Winter and thank you for many years of amazing music. And thank you Bob Rama for turning me on to Johnny Winters amazing catalog of various genre's of music. I believe I have every album he ever did.

I have played guitar all my life. I saw Johnny the first time and got close to the stage, I wanted to see how he picked. I was shocked to see him playing with a thumb, index and annular finger picks, he played guitar like a banjo in triplets. No one had the speed and licks in blues and be one of America's best slide players. As a guitar player, try playing like Johnny with the three finger technique. It requires super coordination since it is very different from plectrum technique. He was an amazing guitar player. Edgar was also mind blowing from rock to jazz sax. They were both gifted and unique. God bless Johnny and hope Edgar can keep performing.

good question! Google says "Chronic Obstructive Pulmanory Disease" - basically any lung disorder. The "pursed lip breathing" is a way to breathe that provides a more efficient way of intake and exhalation. Good catch by the RN fan. It reinforces my position that he is just as passionate now as the 70's, maybe even more as we see such focus. Everything he does has purpose to support his playing.

Wow you guys nice comments. I have to keep playing. People especially younger people don't have the wisdom or the knowledge necessary to understand what a Johnny Winter is to American culture. So those of you that do understand no matter what age. PLAY LIKE JOHNNY!
