Careful with moving around the reservoir, the rigid return line can snap if cold enough. I did the exact same thing to drain and my line snapped due to it being 28 degrees outside. My negligence cost me 60 bucks for a new line but a lesson learned lol.

1. He did this exactly the way Ford service data says to do it. Service data also states: “Less than 80% of coolant coolant capacity can be recovered with the engine in the vehicle.” 2. If you cycle only water through, you’ll be left with water ONLY trapped inside the block & your dilution will be WAY off the mark. 3. If you’re insistent on a full flush with the correct mix ratio at the end, you’d have to leave the radiator drain open & run the engine while continuing to pour your mixed or pre-diluted coolant into the degas bottle for a good bit to ensure no remaining old coolant exists. 4. In regards to the questioning of the mixing of coolants. Ford approves this. You cannot even buy the orange coolant from Ford anymore because it was discontinued. A video explaining the coolants: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWLTq2Nrn5mojacsi=US6Utn5bp8W_aQOY Great video done the way the manufacturer explains it in service data. Great job!

Hello,just so you know the Orange is an OAT type coolant that is same as GM's Dex-Cool according to a dealer. The new Yellow from Motorcraft is actually a P-OAT coolant which is the same coolant type as the Asian carmakers. Except is dyed yellow-green. Ford should had switched to P-OAT back in 2002. But instead they switched from one coolant to another and finally the best coolant.

Hello, thanks for your video, I learned a lot, but I have a question, after changing the coolant, there will be air left in a certain part of the pipe, where is the valve to discharge the air, I saw some cars have a bleed valve next to the expansion tank, but I can't find it on the Focus car, do you know where it is or how to solve the problem of air being trapped in the pipe? I think this is very important, thank you

I had the same thing, only about 1 gal came out, maybe less. (Though it was low). About 3.5L went back in after running the engine, but no more. When I drained it, I let it go for a long while after it had stopped flowing. I thought that it could be that since the front end was elevated, then maybe all the coolant was unable to leave. Not sure.

It just depends on how long it takes to get all the air out. Once the reservoir stops bubbling and you get good heat inside the car, you should be golden.

Is it normal for your coolant temp sensor to drop like that when you have your heat on.
@nathanjones9586
@nathanjones9586 2 жыл бұрын
Do you mean your temp gauge goes down when you turn on the heat? I remember back when I lived in Minnesota, on really cold mornings, it wouldn't get up to the center mark it usually stops at. If it is too cold outside (and the aluminum block doesn't help), running the heat will lower the temperature of the coolant. So if that's what's happening, everything should be normal.

You should add only distilled water after your first drain and repeat it 3 times for get rid of the old coolant completely. Because over half of the coolant was still in the system if you just drain one time. By the way mixing coolant is the worst thing.

The Ford TSB released 2020 August “Backward compatibility / use of Motorcraft Yellow antifreeze/coolant with/in place of Motorcraft Orange antifreeze/coolant …” It states yellow can be used to top off or replace (Drain and refill) in vehicles originally filled with Orange. The tsb further states flushing is NOT required. I did the drain and refill (Yellow with distilled water) on my ‘13 Focus last summer. No issues
@fluboy3434
@fluboy3434 Жыл бұрын
@@jerrykorman7770 There is physically no way keeping half of the old coolant have same consequences as complete flushing. Of course it's consumer's choice to drive the car with old, electrolited coolant of half. I personally never prefer to keep the old coolant. So after a million miles, my engine block, heads, hoses, waterpump, everything the coolant touches stand as brand new.
@jerrykorman7770
@jerrykorman7770 Жыл бұрын
@@fluboy3434 i would say if the cooling system is neglected, a flush is mandatory. If you service your cooling system every 3-4 years and - most importantly - mix with distilled water, everything should be fine That said, because my car is now 8 years old, I will be doing the drain and fill every 2 years.

Was thinking the same thing, not good to mix OAT and HOAT coolants without flushing. They are reactive causing the cooling system to gum up. Like the execution and video overall but poor advice when it comes to coolant chemistry.

I started with Motorcraft Orange that came in the Focus from the factory, and I replaced it with the newest Motorcraft Yellow. I talked to Ford about it and the two types are compatible. You can mix them or top off with the other, and it doesn't hurt anything. The yellow is a little more efficient.

I agree with comment below. You need to flush with distilled water at least 2 to 3 times, getting the thermostat open and circulating. Get fluid clear and then drain and fill with new antifreeze/coolant to correct ratio. I feel your method is poor and a waist of time.
