This review of the Cooler Master H500P Mesh compares it versus the original H500P (acrylic), and revisits the famous GamersNexus H500P review points of criticism. We analyze CPU & GPU temperatures, airflow, noise levels, build quality, and overall construction and design of the case. Cooler Master decided not to sample us, following our initial critical review, so we decided to purchase the case -- it's not a big buy -- and see if anything was being hidden. We benchmark thermals, noise, airflow, and more in this video.

Gwen Coonen, Coolermaster is used to hear good reviews and critics from Tech Tubers. When Steve criticized the H500P, they didn't like it. Now they don't answer in Steve's mails. They act like kids, which is immature from their side. Coolermaster won't admit that the H500P was a failure as a PC case.

That's why they actually reached out to other techtubers, like Tech Deals ;-) It's called : damagecontrol! They know they're in the wrong, they know very well they made a mistake and further their 'damagecontrol' by now selling a so called 'upgrade'. Instead of admitting it and offer a deal for customers who already bought the case. In this pricerange it's just unacceptable and even more so now they ask their customers to 'fix the problem themselves' by selling these so called 'upgrades'. Coolermaster: shame on you !!!! I actually got a bit fond of coolermaster due to these reviews...but this again brought it to my attention what they actually always have done: build cheap 'show'cases. Sorry to say, but for 150€ there are much better choices around! (160€ for the mesh ! Oh gosh..) Then I go watch their website...yups it's all about 'looks' for this case....nothing about airflow...

Good job on "your" case design! 😀I really like the look and general design of the new improved version and hope CM includes an option for a mesh top panel for water cooling! It would also be nice if they could just included the mesh or glass options SEPARATELY for an adjusted price instead of both at a higher price, at least that's how it is currently on Amazon.

Though scathing, Steve's critique highlighted the lack of thought put into the original h500 and the impact it had -- so much so that Cooler Master obviously listened. But it wasn't like he was just taking pot shots at them just for fun. I really hope the Cooler Master team takes this as a learning experience and recognizes that all consumers want is a high quality product that works.

I think they did send out a couple samples, nowhere as many as the original though. Tiny Tom at OC3Dtv got his and had his video up 2 weeks ago well before release. HardwareCanucks also got theirs a week before release day also. But as far as I can tell, Kyle (Bitwit), Paul, HardwareUnboxed, Jay, TechDeals or anyone else got one.

to be honest, if they just made a new front mesh panel available for existing customers for like 10 bucks that would go a long way. sure the other issues Steve mentions are annoying like how easy stuff is to fall off and stuff, but really, for most people, that doesn't really matter that much. You set it up and run it, after that it just sits there.

Getting blacklisted for providing unfavourable reviews is unfortunately common. For example, video game critics (I won't name any to avoid favouritism) who are generally critical get blacklisted all the time. The companies do this to scare critics into being nice about their crap. The threat of not getting a review sample when you know your viewers want a review can be a huge fucking deal for a small reviewer. In a lot of ways, we're lucky that Gamers Nexus is well off enough to buy it.

Very true and i am happy that people subscribe more and more to channels like this. Actions have reactions and people are quick to judge and slow to forgive. Even EA and Disney, the kings of blacklisting, had a taste of the reactions. I don't mind "boycotting" Cooler Master just for childish behavior. Cooler Master must not copy EA or Disney because they will not be able to withstand the backfire. Blacklisting always works for some time, then it comes back and bites you.

You know this video made me realize, you have integrity and to me that is everything. This review should make Cooler Master happy, I mean you bought your own just to review it and give it a chance to see if they improved it, I cant imagine any computer company that makes parts wouldnt want you as their reviewer because you bring legitimacy to their products good or bad you will give them a second chance, hell you seem like you have a heart, I would think you would give more then one chance. Why don't do the case manufacturers use modular cover plates where you can leave on or remove the acrylic plate from the mesh grid? And there could be a little recommendation in the manual like "If you use a front or top radiator, then remove the top cover acrylic plate! In case of a rear radiator or use of aircooling then leave it on!" Even with small illustrational diagrams for the better understanding. It wouldn't be much more expensive but it would give the user more options, a possibly better usage of their case. More flexibility, better performance.

They don't admit that they lied about non-mesh version. That's the sole reason to not send out review samples, they willing to accept they did it wrong, but not accept that non mesh isn't as good as it said.

It's simple: you have to positively review a product even if there's little or nothing positive to say about it. That way you will ensure that companies will "work with you". That's the way 99% of techtubers operate (and why I stay away from the likes of LTT, bitwit, Paul's hardware, TechSource, etc) If you criticize a product... well, you know how that goes.

Sadly you are 100% right. Most review companies tend to be scams. They give good reviews for free products, money, or early review samples (best ad revenue), and the companies get positive marketing. While Steve/GN does have a tiny bit of bias, its nowhere near the industry norm. When I see stuff on GN, I trust it, because Steve has historically called out bullshit often, and I know that doing so is great for his viewers, but not great for making money. Another channel that does this is AvE, where he buys everything himself, calls companies bullshit VERY often, and tells his viewers to use adblock and not waste their time. On a related note, LTT is doing a sponsored fortnite video (they got paid for it), and are showing off a product (LG gram laptop) they got for free from LG who partners with them often. I agree only partly. Even though these tech channels receive free stuff they do not "sell their souls". They may tend to be a little more gentle on how they present critiques, but they still communicate them. And if there's a much better product out there they will indicate it as a better choice. I Love the review - very informative. I wish I had seen this video BEFORE buying a 500p (acrylic). I am using a Liquid CPU cooling set up so the acrylic is fine as mentioned. A couple notes regarding comments at the end of the video - The screw in the rear center of the top lid is on my grey acrylic front case. This change has been made. The sticker of a fan fell off on my case as well - however there is also a part of the fan that fell out (circular, covered in oil, it fell out of the rear center of the fan under the sticker) I have had the case 31 days. Calling Cooler Master Customer Service - we will see how they respond to the warranty on the fan. Keep up the Hard Work!

The problem with the white is it will be yellow after awhile. I have a white Fractal Define R4 and the front panel is yellow now after few years, looks hideous with the white body (painted steel or whatever it is) but the front panel has gone yellow because it is plastic. When I bought it I really thought it wouldn't do that these days. Never again white plastic, no matter how cool it looks.

Well since I already bought this case and built my rig... I placed the radiator on the top and have the fan pulling from inside and pushing through the radiator and out the top of the case. Any tips?

May I ask why? NZXT cases fared worse in Steve's test than this new H500P Mesh. We have more cases that performed better and we treat reviewers fairly no matter how glowing/critical they are.

Silverstonetech well I've used NZXT in the past and they were good on warranty for me, and they've been fair with the reviewers I know, and they get better all the time. I was unfortunately one of the people who were interested in the h500, but can't in good faith buy anything from the company. As for why not Silverstone? I just don't see anything for as cheap and compelling as the line of cases NZXT did in cooperation with Razer. Raven is out of my budget, Maybe I'd go with the Silverstone Primera, but I just don't prefer the gamer look it has and I don't have experience with you guys. Like for me living in Canada, Silverstone's superior thermals aren't as live or die, because I open my window and it drops my office to -10, so it's more about having an understated look in a compact frame.

That thing is perfect for its price, but it would cost me way too much buy it on Amazon.com and import it as it would be to bump up a price bracket into the 180-200$ CAD bracket and just go with an NZXT or Fractal case. I just can't reasonably pay: ($139.99 + $125.03 Shipping & Import Fees Deposit to Canada Details) for the best case at ~125-150$..

I never thought I would ever spend so much money on a case, but I went crazy in the name of temps. I never regretted it in 5 years since I have it, and I will invest into this very case again if I put a second pc together! Cable management is easy, has enough space for everything from the larger GPUS, PSUs, and CPU coolers. The mesh and filters work great, and can be easily cleaned. It never fell apart while carrying or traveling with it in the car for 1200-1400 KM distances at a time! Only issue was the double sided tape holding the top Plexy let loose, HOWEVER that is not a real issue because it is inevitable if it is exposed to high summer temperatures (42 degrees celsius) in a non air conditioned car and you have any weight on it like I did. It is also easy and cheap to fix as even high quality double sided tape costs less than a can of compressed air, and you can fix it with 2-3 narrow strips along the sides, leaving you with enough tape to do this a couple of more times! Overall it is a great case, and can only recommend it to everyone.

So unfortunate that cooler master just stopped talking to you. Yes of course it's never enjoyable to be criticized but they are one of the very few companies that learns from it AND reacts this fast with a modified product. So be proud of that! I personally own a Phanteks Enthoo Evolve ATX TG and even though I still love the beautiful design and build quality, they never did a modification to improve the airflow. I really like the design of the Cooler Master h500p and I'm glad this is now a viable option for enthusiasts.

I have the gunmetal that has the upgrades. bought the mesh front and I have added fans in the top 3(asia horse UFO's) and centrally located one behind the 2 big fans that blows directly in line with the GPU(I recommend this and it looks cool). I'm sticking with air cooling for now. My temps are amazing. I have the faster fans vs this version and I have to say the case is now just what I wanted. Thank you to you guys for your on point review and to cooler master for fixing the case. Hopefully you guys can mend the relationship between each other and everyone will win.

A mesh top is fine just as long as you make the top front fan thats in front of the cpu cooler, an intake. This will ensure the case remains positively pressured and it will increase air flow. The fan at the top back should reamin in the exhaust position, to aid in the evacuation of warm air. Please like so GN can see this as i think a lot of cases can benefit from this setup. Thanks

I’ll be totally honest, I only come here for the technical competence and impartial criticality. That’s when you’re at your absolute best. Otherwise, I think that although CM got the first case wrong, you really went over the top with your bashing. I don’t care for memes or for lulz so I thought that there wasn’t much need (or point) for you to keep flashing up the clip of the case falling apart, over and over, in a lot of your other content. I got it the first time and it started to wear thin for me. I also think that’s why CM have bridled at you, not because you were right but because of how you needled them about it. I think you know that and I think you shouldn’t be feigning ignorance of that when you start in with all this “woah, why aren’t CM sending us things now? How petty can you get”? Come on! You know you rode them harder than you had to, mainly for cheap laughs, and now they’re hacked off, you can’t just pretend you didn’t bring this on yourself. “Hey, I’ll just buy it, it’s no biggie...”. Tech Deals for instance has come out with some good, critical points on the case in the same vein, without turning it into a figure of fun. He’ll still be getting CM products, good or bad, because he didn’t rub it in while he was offering his criticisms.

Still if you were working for CM, would you put your signature to release such a case to production ? What GN said is what i was thinking anyway (and probably others too). For me it felt like a drag&drop case. Drag everything and drop in one case. Let's put big 200 fans and temper glass so it looks cool and then lets choke the fans with cheap plastic and also lets add some other plastic with that temper glass because it will look so good. Yes yes plastic and temper glass look so good together, lets do it. I really really get what you are saying and yes the original review does not follow the general technical vibe of the channel. I hope they will not keep that kind of reviews. but... yes there is a but... i still feel that CM deserved it. Maybe it's kinda personal for me. I loved CM and now there is no case from them that i like and they are getting worse.

@George Morley I agreed whole heartedly. I felt like GN took it a little too far but it also got CM to make the needed changes. At the end of the day, the consumer wins by having a better product which may not have happened if not for GN’s over the top shenanigans. Either way, I love this channel because of it’s quality content and insight. Given the overly extreme outward hysterics towards the previous CM case, Steve is still top notch and this channel is, in my opinion, one of the top tech channels out there currently.

Any company that releases a product that falls apart in your hands deseves to be made fun of for it. What good reason is there to go softly with them? They're a massive corporation, they really don't give a damn about you beyond the money you spend with them, so if they fuck up, let them have it.

That case looks so good in terms of airflow, so much better than those cases that have a solid frontal pannel, like mine, because I didn't know too much about cases at that moment and assumed that cases manufacturers would know what they are doing, that a solid frontal pannel would not affect the airflow, but it turned out they only care about the RGB.

4 years later, this case is still the best air cooler pc case. Great out of the box temperature and more importantly, HUGEEE clearance for cpu cooler. Many of the newer cases have abysmal clearance, which makes it harder to put huge aircooler (and ofc rtx4090)

I would love to see a short video with some thermal tests using an AIO with a top mounted radiator just to see how performance is affected due to the top acrylic when using an AIO liquid cooler. I'm also quite interested in how much removing the PSU shroud would affect GPU cooling. Thanks for continuing to do spectacular work GN.
