Corsair appears to be listening & improving. Corsair's 5000D Airflow & 5000D non-Airflow cases are in for review, benchmarked vs. the 4000D, Silent Base 802, Lancool 215, and many more.

The Corsair 5000D has two variants: The 5000D Airflow and 5000D solid panel, and we're benchmarking and reviewing both in this one content piece. This also talks about the differences between the Corsair 4000D and 5000D because, although the names make them look sequential, they're actually intended to both simultaneously exist and target different audiences. The latest of 4000D & 5000D PC cases from Corsair is a reprisal of the old Obsidian line, and Corsair appears to be back on track to improve its overall product quality in the case market. It's been a while since they've had good ones back-to-back, so that's good to see. Recent competitors would include the be quiet! Silent Base 802, the Fractal Meshify 2 & XL, Lian Li Lancool II Mesh, Phanteks P500, and similar.

Just to say, I would like to see a test of air flow cases fully populated with fans to see the full potential of the cases design. I don’t know a single person who buys a case to use stock fans or put 3 fans in a case that can hold 10, wouldn’t it be more poignant to not recommend this case if you barely intend to take advantage of the air flow? These cases are called air flow so why not fully test the main selling point instead of a semi air flow test.

Great video, as always. I looked at this case when recently shopping and ended up going with the Thermaltake View 51 Snow. The main reason is because the Corsair 5000 series cases have a basement, while the TT View 51 is designed more like the Lian Li O11 Dynamic cases with the dual chamber and things like a PSU and additional hard drives go in the back. Also, there is enough clearance to mount a 360mm x 60mm thick radiator in the rear chamber, behind the mounting area for the 3x 120mm side fans.

I recently bought this case and have been happy with it (Airflow) - I've got 4x 120, 2x140 case fans and 2x 140 CPU fans, I've been optimising for noise and have been pretty happy with how low I can dial the fans down. One thing I'd note is that due to the way the radiator mounts are - the Arctic Freezer II 280 is quite tricky to install in anywhere except the front. The top doesn't leave any room so any motherboard with anything but the smallest VRM heatsink on it is going to block it. I'm happy with putting the the heatsink in the front as I think getting the cool air over the radiator should allow me to keep the fans quieter, but something worth considering. One other slight knock is that I found this case a bit tricky to build in even compared to the smaller case I came from (Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX from 2015).

This was a well done, informative video. I need to mount a 360mm CPU radiator and a 240 GPU radiator. Many cases offer the option to mount one of them in front, but I like having intake fans there. The option to mount a radiator on the side is a nice feature that made me opt for this case. I’ll definitely add fans as needed so there are three in front. Thanks for this detailed review as well as the others in this market sector. Very helpful content

@Gamers Nexus I have appreciated your detailed reviews over the years and that helped inform me to choose the Silverstone RL06 case for my build, a couple years ago. I have noticed lately, that, pleasingly, more case manufacturers are releasing 'HAF' or atleast Mesh front intake filtered cases, rather than the earlier, unfortunate trend of blocked or largely blocked front panel intakes that restricted positive air pressure set-ups, significantly. But a new potential issue I see is with your charts: The amount of cases or more, their variants, means the comparative lists are full of a range of case types from HAF, front Mesh types to closed front panel cases or variants of those cases. Given the growing amount of cases on your charts I wonder: Could you have separate lists for HAF/Front Mesh Cases and 'the rest'? Would be neat to see a comparison of the HAF/Mesh front cases alone, apples-to-apples and if people wish to see comparisons with other case variants, they can see them on another chart? Maybe you could have a video sometime this year on the new 'High Airflow King' or something and include older cases like Silverstone's RL06 to see how they match up - stock, noise-normalised, Standardised Fans etc? There's getting so many of them now, could be interesting to see.

This is actually an amazing case. It’s like an o11d with more focus on performance than looks, but also looking nice. I have the 5000X, which is the same but with glass panels. It has ten 120mm fans, 6 fans blowing air in (3 on front, 3 on side) and 4 fans blowing air out (3 on top with CPU radiator and one on back). My CPU and GPU both run nice and cool (Ryzen 9 5950X and RTX-3090 FE). If you like the glass or closed panels, fill every fan slot and you won't have any problems with an overheating GPU.

I happened to leave the side fan cover on while putting three extra fans in there with the idea of the side intake fans blowing cool air on the huge side panel keeping it cool so the front fans blow the cool air in onto the already cooled side panel and keeping it real nice and cool. Really like my 4000D Airflow. Was a pleasure to build in. The lack of fans do not concern me with this or these new 5000 cases as I use my own fans. I discarded the 2 fans that came with this case and just put it in Ye Olde Parts Bin. Most people I know use their own fans anyway. The only thing I had to be more careful about was not scratching the plastic PETG tubing, other than that, the glass is WAY less likely to get scratched than paint or, god forbid, those old acrylic panels PCs used to use.... Thanks for the hard work, I got a Meshify 2 because your reviews answered most of my questions about different cases. I would like to see cases have more front panel I/O interchangeable plate options, kinda like using a drive bay plate in older towers. I managed to stuff 9x 140mm fans into the case mostly because I could. Due to space constraints, the case has to lie on it's side, have you reviewed using one of these cases in that configuration and how it affects the airflow? This orientation seems to cause the GPU fan to rattle some.

Right? I don't think it would be that hard, either. Probably more expensive, but could be done in a way that hides all the wires. I think having a glass panel with the fan hole/mounting cut out would be awesome. If I designed it, I would have the panel connect power/RGB via some pogo pins on the case, then somehow embed the copper wires into the glass so it would look almost like a clear PCB. I don't even think that's possible, but would look SUPER cool.

I love GN and I especially enjoy watching case reviews. Of particular value to me is the build notes. But almost every time, I find myself shouting at the screen when they come to thermal testing. What the F&%$ is the point of testing these cases with setups that NO ONE is EVER going to use them in? I understand there's something to be said for a degree of scientific rigor when it comes to the kinds of testing GN does, but it helps me nor any other potential case buyer to know how a case performs with only the stock fans. We should be encouraging case manufacturers to sell cases with zero fans, anyway, since the ones they include are usually trash and add an unnecessary extra amount to the MSRP of the case, not to mention end up in the trash (I've only ever bought 3 computer cases and I've got a big box of stock case fans that have never been used). I don't know what percentage of case manufacturers care (or how much they do) about how their cases fare in GN reviews, but if they do, surely they're more likely to include a couple more stock fans, bumping up the price even more for no other reason. Not only that, but now you're even moving these useless stock fans around in the case trying to find the optimal arrangement when, and I repeat, NO ONE is EVER going to use the case like that. So you're essentially using your time to test cases in multiple configurations that provide virtually no useful information to consumers, other than the fact that they need to buy more fans... but we already know that. Please, for the love of, at least add a "typical" or "ideal" fan setup. If you insist on doing the other tests for scientific completeness, then that's your business, but please add this one final test that would add more useful information that all the other thermal tests combined.

I "fit" a 3x140mm radiator with the bottom fan somewhat suffocated, and all fans aren't screwed in with all four screws into the radiator. It works because the Corsair H170i ELITE radiator fit with zero clearance - it's not going anywhere. I moved the fans that came with the case to the side openings, mounted the radiator+fans to the front, plugged everything into the RGB controller that came with the H170i, and removed the controller that came with the case. The only thing I had real trouble with, or didn't really work well, was fitting the 24V cable through the panel that hides the cables on a FULL SIZE ATX board like the ASRock Taichi Carrara. I picked up a right angle RGB adapter to make this work. I had issues with the cable management because how you remove some of the pieces aren't exactly clear, but once I got everything together, snugged up all the cables with the straps and the bar, it came together wonderfully. I absolutely hated working with this case, it was my least favorite build to date, but I love it now that it's put together.
