Lose the gravel. It will eventually clog the pump or radiator. Lose the boat. It will act as a heat sink that retains rather than dissipates. Remove the front plate from the controller to allow circulation and prevent a hot spot there. Remove the fans. They don't behave as propellers. They will hinder rather than facilitate circulation and they'll draw more power doing it than they would in air. Remove as much of the case as possible to maximize exposure to the oil and eliminate heat retention. Place the suction and return lines on opposite ends of the unit to create flow. The whole purpose of doing this is to be able to run the unit at higher frequency (which means higher hash rate) while simultaneously consuming less electricity. If done correctly, the power consumption can easily be reduced by around 25% while simultaneously producing around 40% higher hash rate.

Come on man, we need to know how efficient this was. How hot did the fluid get? Was the radiator able to transmit enough heat out of the medium? Did you stick with it? Why not?
@JoelPagan6 жыл бұрын
Leaving out details. Fluid tested until 110 degrees. Max temperature reached in +-30min at a normal room temperature. Minus +-10 room temperature reached in +30min. Two radiators (these specifically) cannot remove the heat generated. This is somewhat given because they are built for ~350 watt of heat removal give or take. A custom radiator would do. I still wanted to test this though. I did not stick with it because it was purely an experiment to get some numbers in order to properly calculate scalability requirements. There is a lot of math out there to calculate this but no practice. I hope that helps.
@StephenOwen6 жыл бұрын
Joel Pagan thanks for the reply. It would be interesting to combine this with a window ac to more effectively draw the heat from the radiator. Or place a large radiator with a fan outside of the window to place the waste heat outside directly.
@JoelPagan6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Owen Definitely. It really depends on your goal. One miner and trying to get rid of noise? Then just build a simple sound box with mufflers and loaded mass roll. Trying to keep cool and noiseless 5-10 in an office closet? Then just use this setup with a heat exchange condenser (the ones that look like an ac). Only if you can justify the extra cost of equipment and oil. Somewhat hard to make the case for that though. Bitmain tried to do liquid cooling with the c1 but it's not as cost effective. Works OK for hobbyists but not scalable. I'm willing to demonstrate a large scale solution if enough people find value in doing so. What window setup were you considering?

If it is near flammable material such as a cloth then the oil could feed that material similar to a wick. Note that silicon chips has working temperature range, under certain temperatures they might not work or may work faulty. They all have a datasheet containing the working temperature range, that is usually between around -50 and +100C. If there is a kind of luck the silicon chip can create that much heat to heat up the conducting material between the chip and the coolant to maintain the working heat range even with such an excess cooling, then it might work. In worst case there is a chance to break the chip because of thermal difference on the two sides. A lot of materials crack if one side is overcooled and other side it warm. Silicon chips are not different. Keep in mind this might ruin the equipment.

Joel Pagan how has it been mining so far? Let's say I had a big tank with 4 miners in it, with oil, do you suppose there would be enough heat in the oil to flow through a coil in my ductwork to heat my home reasonably?
@JoelPagan6 жыл бұрын
Joel B Technically it would be possible but I don't think you would want that because you want the inverse of that setup. In your case your describing the desire to have the greatest amount of heat go through ducted pipes and then home radiators. In the mining setup you want the least amount of heat going through pipes because your trying to keep the temperature -10 below room temp. I don't want to give specific numbers because they are highly subjective and not fully scientific. However, I am completely certain that 4 of these can keep a 2500sq ft. home perfectly warm all winter long if the home has reasonable insulation and you duct the output to your home vents. No need for costly oil nor containers.

Take that rad and attach it directly to the chips, and then increase airflow over the rad instead of putting the whole thing in what is essentially an incubator and using a radiator that is a fraction the volume of the fluid inside the tank that would obviously not be able to deal with the heat. Hugely irresponsible video as I can see people asking how to build this in the comments, without finishing the video and showing people that this doesn't work, and instead calling it "literally the coolest" is encouraging people to throw thousands of dollars and the planet's resources into the trash

Ironic that you can't spell "mining" correctly.

Indeed, that's why Zoin is such a better option. CPU mining. You could mine with your own personal computer with out the need to invest a dollar.

Don't stop thinking outside the box. I'm also working on a scalable solution. Essentially your challenge is the heat exchange efficiency. Keep posting updates. Good luck

Thanks for the breakdown! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (air carpet target dish off jeans toilet sweet piano spoil fruit essay). What's the best way to send them to Binance?

Does this radiator work??? Don't you need something more heavy duty??. Don't it need a wider diameter on the tubes so more liquid get cooled faster, and also tubes made of copper??? Seems like that would get pretty hot.

I didn't hear that you put a filter so at some point the mineral oil will get dirty over time like all liquids that circulate.

Damascus Steele No filter in this experiment but a large scale solution design requires one.

Why a cooling radiador /water pump specs?
@ricardogarcia692 жыл бұрын
good project, what pump do you use?
@SeamanTech3 жыл бұрын
You dont need to put a loop btw.. mineral oil is the coolant itself... And the edges of your aquarium will be eaten by the mineral oil over time.. so youll notice mineral oil leaks

I'm confused by the fact that you dont have a pwm error when using the fans in oil? Please explain. I already have a faulty fan and so intend to put an fanbegone thing on it even though it works. I need the fan error to go away and for the fan to go around? Please help!

I was looking at making a mineral oil computer years ago but never pulled the trigger. I remember reading that SSD are fine submerged but HDD aren't.
