11:25 I have to correct you on that one James: the car you’re showing is an Ibiza, which never had 4WD. The Ibiza was the SEAT variant of the Polo, not the Golf 11:33: that is a Leon Cupra R, which was based on the A3 8L platform (yes, the A3 was the first car on that platform, beating the Golf mkIV by a year). The Leon Cupra R had the same BAM engine as the S3 only it came with FWD only. There were Haldex 4WD variants of the Leon, one with the 180HP 1.8 20vT (AUQ) and the actual Leon Cupra4 had the 2.8VR6 with 201 hrsprs. SEAT had to drop the “4” moniker as that’s what Porsche was using for their 4WD models. Had to correct you on that one, the Leon Cupra R is one of my favourite cars, and it put the GTI to shame. Mk1 LCR still had mo powa babeh than the Mk5 GTI.

James, great video. You and I are of similar age, so this era of cars are special to me. I worked for a VW dealership in WA right out of high school (‘99-‘02). It got me through community college before heading to a university to complete my degree. I had an ‘84 GTI that I bought for $600 while working at the dealership. I drove that when I went off to university and left my ‘71 Beetle convertible at home. I put a ton of miles on it driving between school and home. Thankfully it had factory cruise control with the 5-speed. Sadly sold it after I got married and started a family. We do still have my wife’s ‘89 Cabrio though, a great summer car, my teenage daughters love it. Regarding the list, I would love to have the Clio and Lupo, wouldn’t oppose to the S3 either. Love me some hot hatches. Keep up the good work!

It's worth noting that basically all of these cars will likely shoot up in value the very instant they become legal to import into the US. Our market is full of hungry collectors waiting to get their hands on these things and it completely disrupts the supply and demand right away. A prime example of this happening is with the Lancia Delta Integrale EVO. For decades it hovered around $30k-40k equivalent in Europe and Asia, but as soon as it became US-legal, it skyrocketed to $70k-100k in no time. In other words, you gotta hop on these type of cars quick... or if you were lucky, you already had one lined up before its 25th birthday.

Nice thing about Audi is how modular their platforms are. You could get a B6 Audi a4 or s4 Avant for like 10k (its gotta be the 30 valve 3.0 v6); get the 2.7TT v6 from a C5 Audi a6 for 2-3k; along with some other few things you could build yourself a RS4 Avant on a budget, save 20-40k to put towards other things like maintenance. Sure you wont get things like the VIN matching RS4 or RHD; but things like manual swap and AWD are possible with stock drivetrain and not a large amount of modification to things like computer.

I owned a 4th generation Honda Odyssey RB3 back in Japan in 2009. I would absolutely want to have that again, but it won't be here for another 8 years. Isuzu brought an earlier generation over here to the US as the Oasis, but that never took off and that generation was panned. But from the second generation, Honda figured it out and released something that took off overseas. We never got any generation after the disastrous Isuzu Oasis. That's a shame, because the RB series of Odysseys were fantastic. The RB1 is still 3 years away, but if one shows up in reasonable shape, maybe I can recapture my youth.
