James, I know that the likelihood that you'll ever see this comment is seldom to none, but I want to put this out into the ether never the less. I've been a viewer of yours essential since the early days of donut. The energy that you bring to any video your apart of made it so easy to connect with you on any subject you talk about. Videos like the history of Dale Earnhardt show that you have such a real and visceral care on what you talk about. I think that you starting a channel of your own has given you the opportunity to bring passion and creativity that was overlooked, especially in the later years, at donut. Hearing you talk about cars and automotive history on this channel, with such genuine joy, dedication, and love of the craft, fills me with emotions I've only felt when watching peak Top Gear as a young boy. Like the recent discourse over the Mustang GTD aiming to compete with or even beat the 992 GT3RS' lap time on the Nordschleife, hell even get close to or dethrone the 997 GT2RS' undefeated lap time on Nordschleife. Primarily because one, elitst's dislike anytime an opposing brand challenges porshce in motorsports or two, the general hate boner everyone gets from ford for anything they try or do. Shouldnt we appreciate that porsche has set a bar for other brands to try and compete with rather than downplay and disregard them and their efforts??? Lots of great history and information throughout the years. Solid! I have days where I kick myself for selling my aircooled 911. Then I remember why I sold it for another car I loved more. This video is in my downloads. I decided at the end of the video that it should, no, must be at my disposal at all times. While Speeed has been a refreshing change to the KZbin space, I can say with confidence that this is going to be a video that people come back to for years to come, like the legendary, special U2S episode that we all love. I would much prefer this format, a well thought out, highly informative, captivating video. I didn't once feel the urge to check the time, I forgot that you were talking about the sponsor of the video until there were 2 seconds left in the advertisement (I am (usually) vigilant about skipping sponsor scenes), and I didn't want to miss a second of the story. It is refreshing to see and hear the genuine happiness returning to your demeanor, and the community that you have built is amazing. I hope that long format videos aren't an exception, as, I hope I speak for the collective when I say that we want more. From a great storyteller, I can listen all day about any topic, and you are one of the best. I hope that there is a similar story for that of the M3 one day, and (selfishly) more specifically the e46, that I can download to join this masterpiece! Thank you for all the time, thought, and effort that you put into your work, James! It truly does not go unnoticed, and most definitely does not go unappreciated. Last comment, just finishing up the video. I 100% agree that the "overhyped" hate of the RS is mostly for clicks and from a misunderstanding of what the RS is supposed to be. The thing is meant to be as close to a full race car that you can drive home, it's not meant to be comfortable, easy to drive, and easy going.
@maximborodyuk37732 ай бұрын
it loses this point being way more expensive than tow rig + enclosed trailer + Porsche Cup car + a lot of tires. Oh, and it's kinda loses the point by being barely faster (or even slower at some tracks) than comfortable luxurious supercar with glorious v8 for 1/3 of a price, that have 1/3 of downforce as well (c8 z06 z07). So much for "muhhh but engineering".

@@SparklingWalrus yeah, at some(!) tracks it's slightly faster than z06. Which to be expected from a track monster with 3x downforce, zero creature comforts, solid bushings everywhere - list goes on. Problem is, it's not on every track, and your "destroys" is like half a second on 2.5 minute lap (that is a referrence to Lightning Lap, for example). On other tracks it loses, like french magazine tests, or TH recent one. Ferrari did not invent mid-engine cars, neither they invented flat plane v8 (that was actually Cadillac). You can butthurt however you want, it doesn't change the facts and laptimes. Calling the GTD stupid is just showing your ignorance, noone would sell your gt3 jacked replica except Ford (for half the price of an actual gt3 car), especially in EV times. @SparklingWalrus2 ай бұрын
@@maximborodyuk3773 I’m not even talking about the engine despite Chevy copying a Ferrari engine, that’s besides my point. The C8 still looks like it was designed 10 years ago. It literally looks like an ugly version of a Ferrari 488 and the 488 isn’t even a partially attractive car. I’ll take the sport beetle any day over those strange design choices and the PDK is far superior than any other dual clutch on the market. I think you’re the one who’s ignorant and you clearly just listen to influencers who have zero track experience. You don’t have a clue what RennSport means for Porsche. Why the fuck does anyone need “creature comforts” for a car that was made for the track? Are you a moron? If you want creature comforts then go buy a turbo S. I’m sure the engineers who designed the damn thing are having a good laugh over your stupid comments. Also the Mustang GTD has proven nothing, they claim it will be a sub 7 minute time at the Nurburgring but that has yet to be seen. Also ford has been getting destroyed by Porsche in the WEC and IMSA. Something you missed. The 996.1 GT3 actually did have a variant called the GT3 RS. The 996.1 GT3 RS was a race car built for privateers. The factory raced the GT3 R, and privateers were sold the GT3 RS. Porsche created the 996.2 GT3 RS primarily to homologate changes to the front suspension for racing. At that point the name of the race cars changed from RS to RSR. Since they were the race cars that utilized the road going RS’s front suspension modifications

Pretty important detail. Also another important detail; a privateer was a type of state-sanctioned pirate in wartimes. I think you just mean 'private people' or in this case you'd call them the public. Unless it was exclusively sold to pirates who engage in state-sanctioned maritime warfare in which case I retract everything

As a mechanical engineering student who loves design and aesthetics, James' monologue on function and design really spoke to me. This whole channel feels like an accumulation of the things I'm nerdy about. Love it!

Ngl, I’m digging the longer episode. For one it you kept it entertaining and informative, to the point it didn’t feel like an hour passed. There’s nothing worse than finishing up a doc and feeling like you still missed something, this episode didn’t leave me feeling like I missed anything there. Thank you for the great content there good sir.

James, 1h long videos are the bomb. These go dummy hard while eating or winding down and having you go into so much detail over a topic you're clearly passionate about is awesome. Keep them coming!

It's been awesome to see you, much like a Porsche engineer, refine your product over the years into something truly special. This really captured the emotion I personally feel behind the cars that I've tuned and modified over years to fit my needs. I don't know why this video made me tear up but I do know the next time I start the engine on my one-of-one car, I'll be thinking of how this video made me feel. Thanks James.

the speach at 45:15 brought a tear to my eye as an engineer. thats exactly how perfection happens. you dont make perfection trying to please *people* perfection isn't subjective. it doesn't care what anyone thinks about it. *it knows* and it doesn't appologize. thanks for the inspiration 🙏

One thing about the 964 RS America is that, even though it seems less focused than EU RS, it's still a true RS at the core. Not only is it 10K less than a regular C2, but it still has a True RS engine, gearbox, suspension, and brakes and retains some lightweight bits to make it more raw than a regular US 911
