Cooley's Reel: Guitar Lesson

G'day! In this Cooley's Reel: Guitar Lesson, we'll take a look at a fun arrangement of the melody for the intermediate/advanced picker, containing 2 variations of the melody within part A & B.

Cooley's Reel is a traditional Irish reel in the key of Em (Dorian). It has challenging left hand note combinations featuring chordal accents, arpeggios and triplets and is a great work out for your right hand with a lot of movement over the strings, but is super fun to play & sounds great!
Note the tuning used in the arrangement is 'Drop D'.

@Pickin' Lessons Hi from Belgium! I can play that tune but only the versions without triplets. Do you have a video that focuses on the triplets in a ríl dúbáilte type of tune by any chance? Go raibh maith agat ;) Sláinte ps: I think Patsy O'Brien is often in US. He made Miss Monaghan reel and Out of the Ocean lessons :)

Cheers! No lessons that focus on triplets exactly, several tunes that have triplets used in the arrangement though...

Pickin' Lessons OK. Shall look for your other tunes then. Do you play sometimes with a guitar backer or cittern or bouzouki some of those reels? I saw a video of 2 American guitar player playing Cooley's but it sounded more like Blugrass than Irish style which I do. Sláinte! ;) In USA Matt Heaton from Buston does Irish flatpicking as well as John Doyle. But generaly a guitar duo of Irish dance tunes 1 flatpicking + 1 backing is dar too rare. Maybe you know some?
