In the past, I made a lathe cross slide lead nut with other plastics. Those plastics weren't stiff enough for the loads on a cross slide screw/nut. The lathe couldn't hold tolerances under normal cuts. Can you provide a follow-up video showing how well your lathe now holds tolerances with this material? Thanks, Bill
@CoolIdeasDIY-qv1nzАй бұрын
Yes of course, this nut is made of the latest bronze replacement plastic and I've already tested it load holds perfectly!
@conconstantinou458Ай бұрын
Just a little tip. You really look after your equipment, and I respect that. With regards to you lathe, you should always have something in the tailstock spindle bore wheather using it or not. It protects and stops any swarf, machining dust/particles from entering the spindle bore which can cause damage to the morse taper and eventually needing repair or replacement. Just something I learned from years of being a machinist. All the best.

Greetings, my friend. I have also considered the possibility of using polyamide and other plastics for the sliding nut. But what I would like to add - personally, I would prefer (if possible) to lengthen the nut and add more threads there. Just to be sure, if there were shocks or excessive load on that particular plastic. Otherwise great videos, I enjoy watching them.

Nice video, but you never came out with telling us what the stuff is! After reading through comments it appears to be “rimamid”. Since it was supposedly from Russia, none of us are going to buy any from there until Russia gets out of Ukraine COMPLETELY! But in mean time, I think I found a number of commercial products using it and there is a research gate article about it. I don’t check McMaster Carr but it’s worth a bet that they could have it. Since it’s a plastic, I can’t believe Russia is the only source. Just got to looker harder and wider.
