I couldn’t tell you how many cards I had from the original TCG, probably like 3-500? Those have all disappeared; but Since I’ve gotten back into the game about 3 years ago I’m at a collection of somewhere around 500,000 cards 🤷🏻‍♂️

I wish I still had my original 3, Who knows what they would've been worth still sealed, but our landlord from way back kicked us out before we finished packing and I have a feeling that's where they are :(

Yeah, these are the most basic of basic rarities. There are Extra Secret Rares that were similar to Starlight, but for prize cards, or the 10,000 Secret Rare. Good luck if he can get one of those if he is ever going to complete this series. There's also Hobby League, Duelist League (colored text, also brought back in Legendary Duelist Ultra Rares), multiple versions of Duel Terminal (polka dot, shatterfoil), Battle Pack (black rare, shatterfoil, mosaic), In fact, he didn't even discuss Prismatic Secret Rare (which have been in the game since GBC games and are the default OCG Secret Rare), and all Secret Rares have RAINBOW text, not silver. Checkerboard is probably a confusing way of saying prismatic/parallel. He also forgot Collector's Rare, that a huge one. The OCG has unique ones, like Millennium Rare or KC Rare.

To be honest, commons are my favorite rarity. The artwork in them is just clean and bright. They don't seem to bend over time as well. Once I bought two structure decks, and all of the ultra rares in them were bent, making them illegal to use, due to being "marked".

I remember my mum buying me and my brother an odd-eye pendulum dragon with a platinum/silver border and texture for each of us because she knew we liked Yu-Gi-Oh but not much beyond that. They were like £2.50 each or something on eBay. However, what she did not realise is that it was that card which started my pendulum deck and for which I would watch summoning videos from the anime to find new odd eyes cards to build around...ahhhh...the good ol' days

I had mint condition, super rare, pokemon cards, multiple copies of nearly every card up to and including generation 3. That includes each of the originals like mint Charizards, the entirety of the rare varients of the "Dark Pokemon" cards, and each of the limited edition cards. I was an advanced collector at a young age, but my parents ended up accidentally destroying the entire collection, causing me to TRY and rebuild it but not managing to get my ultra rare collection back due to how uncommon they were, even back then. My collection would be priceless now and YES, some were graded, even back then, although it was different back then. I still get a gut punch feeling thinking about it. It hurts and caused me to give up ALL collecting, to this day.

To add, gold rare have gold borders and names, quarter century secret rares are the same as starlight but have a 25th anniversary marking in the effect box, Rarity collection has Platinum secret and thats the same as secret except it also has foiling on the edge of the effect box. There are many other rarities but usually the sets you can find them in are limited and specific

As the game has developed over the years many people like the foils but OGs want edition cards and everyone I have ever meet sleeps on that fact that the front facing bottom right square is either gold or silver gold being a first or special addition and silver being a reprint

Went to a NerdShop and looked through some of their card selection. Found a Tearlament I've never heard of and #97 Draglubion both in Ultra Rare for $1 Ended up buying the Draglubion because it was a cooler souvenir, but the amount of cards floating in small shops around the States alone has to be insane. Just saying, Yu Gi Oh cards can be cheaper than paying someone to draw stuff 🤣🤣 And they make for neat trinkets if you (like me) don't play the TCG but still like the artwork

Ah but what we always forget is that within most of our rarities we have variants as the material they use for the holo has changed as well. For example the first ghost rares, vs later vs ghost from the past are all slightly different. Also some older ultimate rares didn't have the ultimate foil on the borders. Oh and we've gone through loads of types of ultra Inc coloured names etc
