Friend f mine, Frank Wolf, he tested some of the early T Formex canoes and was happy with them. If you know Frank...you know he has some serious experience in big expedition canoeing. I do however remember one time when he was staying at our place getting ready for a trip and he messed up when drilling the holes in a brand new Esquif canoe for a spray cover. All worked out in the end though. The canoe still got him from near our place in Thunder Bay where we dropped him off, up the Hudson's Bay. Esquif has good canoes. Myself, I usually paddle Clipper Canoes, another Canadian company.

I would like to do this to my 17 ft mohawk fiberglass canoe, will lacing work with fiberglass/

I wouldn't try it with fiber glass. The lines can have alot of pressure on them. For fiberglass I would use the glue in patches with d ring tye a off

Any issues with delamination? I just bought a brand new "used" Wenonah Aurora in T Formex and was considering this modification.

None , and its year 3 now, and stored outside . I have had to replace the ropes with a better quality rope.

@@OldBastardOutdoors thanks for the reply. I'm actually considering installing painters by drilling slightly larger holes that are straight inline with each other, and running a piece of PVC pipe through, and then using epoxy to seal the pipe in the holes. I figure that will help bond the layers where I drilled, and it'll give a strong channel to run my painter line through. After the epoxy dries, I'd take a flush cut Japanese saw and lop the excess pipe flush with the side of the boat. What do you think?

@@OldBastardOutdoors I actually found a video of someone doing almost exactly what I was talking about, except it looks like they used aluminum pipe instead of PVC, so I guess it's really a thing. I was just wanting some way to help strengthen those pull points while helping minimize any possibility of delamination. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGO3coyPn82pbrc
