@@setsers1 Long story short, in the old archie comics, there were several Metal Sonic. Every time one was thought to be destroyed, Eggman would just build a new one, but some older models have managed to survive despite all odds. Captain Metal is one of those, who fought Shadow in Blaze's dimension and was blow into pieces by a cannon (or so we thought), way back in Sonic Universe issue #1.

It seems strange to me that Metal seems to have gained a personality after being rebuilt, in Sonic Universe 1, while he was still Metal Sonic, he even said himself he thinks of himself as nothing more than a weapon to serve Dr. Eggman, and stood by that belief even after Shadow asked him to surpass his programming. As Captain Metal he seems to be completely independent, and made his own plans for personal power, there seems to be little trace of his personality as Metal Sonic. How can one repair turn a mindless robot minion into a diabolical villain?

Anonomous518 I always thought of it as Doc Sprocket having to use spare parts he had laying around, as parts of Metal were too damaged to be repaired fully, both internally and externally. It's not too far out of the realm of possibility that whatever mechanism or programming he had inside that kept him loyal to eggman was destroyed when he was blown apart, and considering he had to use the parts of other pirate robots to upgrade himself, he probably got a voice chip from one of them. Least, that's the headcannon I subscrible to XD.
