Coop Tour 06/18/2023

We built our coop in 2017 from a free craigslist playground set and reclaimed pool deck wood. The run is 24' long and has a baby pool for the 2 ducks. Plenty of space under the coop too and coop porch. We did bury the chicken wire 1foot into the ground but I recommend using vinyl coated wire to delay corrosion.
Just had to make a coop door, chicken ladder for the girls to go up to roost and lay, and roof. I think the outdoor high quality deck paint was the most expensive part.
This thumbnail is when we first built it in 2017 and we now have a fence 6 feet behind it and we let the girls out in that little patch often. There are so many native plants now around the coop you can barely see it.
Sadly this past winter a weasel kept getting in and killed more than half our chickens and 1 duck and injured the other. The sections of siding we added to the run bottom where the wire meets wood seems to have solved the weasel problem. We got 8 more chicks this spring and they are getting big so we are back up to a dozen again. Ethyl is the sole Peking duck with a gimpy leg she always had. Once we took both ducks in our above ground pool with us. After the weasel attack we did bring Ethyl inside in the bath tub to help clean her off an her wounds, and another back a month or two after that.
I found some pictures at Goodwill that might be motivational in the coop for laying and kept going decorating the coop like the hens were all bi teenagers. Hope you enjoy the tour of the girls room.
