Bota Bora had a player board that worked like a player aid as well. Super colorful and confusing on first sight. But after a while you understood how well that was designed. Everything you needed was just there.

Cooper Island and Maracaibo are such amazing games that came out and barely snuck in by the end of 2019. Phenomenal games!

I appreciate the run-through and final thoughts. Between this and Maracaibo, Capstone Games is really hitting it out of the park. They’re both on my wish list when their next printings are available. I seem to recall Crystal Palaces being on a previous Patreon survey. Will you be reviewing it? After watching the Heavy Cardboard playthrough, which intrigued me, I’d be interested in your thoughts. Thanks again!

my wife and i used to dislike cut-throat mechanisms. but bruxelles 1893 made bluffing/double-bluffing/out-bidding more likable to us. Even lighter games like Isle of Skye and Azul have made high player interaction more appealing to us. We kinda like the tension now. As long as we are able to hug it out after the game. However, I think we there is an unspoken understanding that neither of us would make a total jerk move in a heavy eurogame.

The cutthroat level of Crystal Palace at 2 player was not so high in our experience, or the take that cards didn't come out in that particular game. But wow, we like Crystal Palace a lot!

Many worker placement games do let you do same things as your opponents, but making you pay for it. Teotihuacan, Marco Polo, those two come quickly to mind.

not many give you the option to not pay resources but instead take a vp penalty (and then opponent gets to choose what they want rather than take what you get).
