Intruders and bigger "spey flies" are excellent fly patterns for big Alaskan King Salmon on a spey rod. Learn how to tie a king salmon fly that is easy to tie, uses minimal tying materials and is a proven fish-catcher.
The Chrome - Magnum is also a great pattern for western and great lakes steelhead and can also be modified for trout spey applications and sized down if necessary.
**This fly is one of my go-to patterns for swinging flies for king salmon in Alaska and has caught a variety of fish for our clients over the years.
The materials we used in this king salmon intruder fly can be swapped out for your favorite steelhead and king salmon catching colors. We love black, purple, blue, pink, orange and chartreuse. We also suggest the use of some weight at the front of the head if your fishing conditions demand the use of weighted flies.

Very nice. In British Columbia I found black/purple very good for kings especially when they had been in the river a little while. A bright blue and chartreuse combination was excellent for kings just in from the tide.

Nice one Dave! Does the Fun Fur have any flash in it? I bought some "PIC Yarn Collection" at the Dollar store (a skein of white with clear flash and one of black with black flash) a couple of years ago and tied up a couple of Woolly Buggers with it for bass. The PIC yarn palmered along the wraps of the chenille body nicely and the bass gave their approval. Never thought of using the stuff in an intruder style fly - thanks for the suggestion :-) Cheers! Hey There! I definitely do like to add dubbing as a prop from time to time. This one has quite a bit of movement and I like the slimmer profile, but with a dubbing composite loop, It might stand up and have a bigger profile which is also awesome :)
