Of all the hand drumming videos I've seen, this guy is my overall hero. He's featured in a ton of videos all over KZbin. So musical. So technically brilliant. So versatile. Thanks for sharing this!

Depends on instrument and setting. The microphone in this video is just there for recording purposes. Obviously drumsets players mic their drums for live concerts and performances because in most cases, the volume without any mics just won't be heard (especially in large venues). A lot of big name high school marching bands and basically all Drum Corps do this for their front ensembles with keyboards, timpani, etc. Percussion instruments don't have this issue in a concert hall, though.

Hi PercussionNet , In minute 1.15 you started play on (18 bendir Renaissance Head) which has different sound than other drums, I have a feeling it has kind of (snare drum strainer string). Could you please tell me what is this kind of drums called? Also I have a frame drum, do you think I can transfer it to this kind of drums by add on it (snare drum strainer string)? Thank you
@DavidHilowitzMusic5 жыл бұрын
According the comments above it's a "18-in. bendir w/ Renaissance head"

Hello David, the first frame drum of the video is really a bodhran? i can't find it on the cooperman website. the only 22 inch frame drums is a Tar. do you have a link where to find it ? thank you !
@shaalis4 жыл бұрын
The answer is no. It's a bodhran in the sense that Glen Valez called it as such, but what it is somewhere between a Tar and a bodhran [as the back is given a cross-bar and grip]. Bodhran is an Irish frame drum with differently prepped skin and played in a non-carnatic way]. A lot of bodhran players feel the way frame drumming appropriated the bodhran into it forsakes its context through its name.

I suspect these frame drums are primarily one-person instruments for placing the player into a meditative trance. The drums don't sound that good to anyone except the person playing but to that person, they sound great.

Gabriel Olmedo actually remo renaissance. Just got a 22" remo renaissance frame drum. The best sounding frame drum i have ever heard. Sounds even better than his 22" bohdran, but similar. They are new heads, or the same heads as regular remo but with a new type of coating that is incredible. I think I might replace my entire drumkit's head with them.

what's the difference between 1- and 2-sided frame drum? Is 1 sided louder or just 2nd side gives additional tone?
I would like to know why you call the frame drum you play a bodhran. A bodhran is an Irish frame drum, played with a special mallet. Do some other cultures really refer to their frame drums as bodhrans? This is new to me.
@celticdeamon567 Жыл бұрын
