The organ is not dead. Young people like you can keep it alive. Keep practicing and making wonderful arrangements so other young people can be turned on to how great organ music is.

I feel like maybe part of the issue of the assumed/actual decrease of Organ players is that getting to play an actual Organ, to obtain actual experience with it, requires some sort very friendly connection with people or groups and also because they're not common instruments that are easily accessible. I assume in most cases, places keep unprofessionals away from their Organ as they're very expensive instruments and they don't want to take any chances. Also, most electronic keyboards that try to replicate an Organ rather produces a "RIP headphone users" variant of the Organ and it's not too pleasant. I feel like issues like these and potentially honestly do definitely do contribute to the opposing ideal for Organs.

I'm almost 29 and I absolutely LOVE the pipe organ more than any other instrument. It's the most beautiful instrument around, and my dream is to learn to master the instrument. :) Your skills are amazing, so please don't stop. Keep going. :)

Not the organ is dead. I think, often the probleme is, that the organists in the churches are near to death but don't give the young interested people a chance to try and learn. As a teenager of maybe 16 years I had the fortune to meet a churchmusician who gave me time on the console bench after the mass, when the church was empty. Later I got a key and arrive at sundaymorning a hour before the priest and do some practice.

I'm 18 and I'm from Italy. I'm also an organist and I think young people today watch this instrument like a thing that is only for liturgy... infact I'm starting to teach to kids the various sonority of this wonderful machine after the mass during the summer camp in my town curch ;)

Daniel, there is something about the pipe organ that reminds me of a more beautiful place, perhaps even Heavenly. I believe that within some of us there is a magical ability to feel Music. This brought me to the organ keyboards; now I can create my own Heaven.

Sorry for replying to such an old comment, but I very rarely see comments I identify with so closely. I’m 29 now, and feel exactly the same as you. My dear, dear friend used to be our church organist (the church has since closed), and he could make that Victorian tracker action instrument sing like a canary. When I first heard him on a theatre organ, it was magical… I texted my Mam & said “I think I’m in Heaven”. Our organ society used to have fortnightly get togethers where those who could play, did, and those who couldn’t/ didn’t want to just listened. It didn’t matter what I was going through, or how bad I felt, I’d always leave feeling better. One last thing. My friend and I became the maintenance team- basically he did the maintenance and I watched while trying to learn. We had a marathon tuning session before one of our concerts. Eight. HOURS. By the end, we were both freezing cold and numb, but he wanted to play something to make sure it sounded alright. I’ve never heard a better version of “Thine Be The Glory”… It was one of those “I’m glad to be alive” moments. Thanks for bringing all this back

Every time I hear this I remember those afternoons with the sound of the organ of a church that I went with my mom and dad. I remember being 6 years old and although church seemed boring to me today, at 26 years old I miss sitting on my dad's lap in church so much

I was born in Holland in the early 40`s , and I used to go up in the organ loft with my uncle, who was the organist. Although I don`t play, I consider myself to be an organ nut. Nothing compares to the pipe organ, and it truly is the king of instruments. Keep up the good work Joey.

The acoustic range of a fine pipe organ is certainly one of the wonders of mankind. An instrument spanning some four thousand years has been refined over time in step with technology to create an even more elaborate instrument. To hear in the flesh a large pipe organ played by a talented organist will leave anyone in awe. A pipe organ breathes just as we breathe... the sounds are generated by wind. I suspect a large portion of the world population are pipe organ enthusiasts, they just don't know it yet. Check out the Boardwalk organ and the Wannamaker organ, Grand Organ at the Melbourne Town Hall. All of these instruments need to be preserved. No question, Pipe Organ... The King of Instruments. When listing to pipe organ music on the internet, be sure to use good quality headphones to get the full range of the score.

I don't know that there ever has been an instrument devised that is as magnificent as the pipe organ. A complex blend of machine and instrument which requires an entire building just to house it, yet each one built is a unique work of art all unto its own. They're so wildly impractical, yet there is something fundamentally soul-moving in the music they create when played well. And you played this one well. Hope you're still playing them to this day!

WOW, gave me goosebumps. There is nothing grander than the sound of a wonderful old pipe organ!!! In the U.S. the organ is pretty much a dead instrument. There's a calm surrender To the rush of day When the heat of a rolling wave Can be turned away An enchanted moment And it sees me through It's enough for this restless warrior Just to be with you And can you feel the love tonight? It is where we are It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer That we've got this far And can you feel the love tonight? (Tonight) How it's laid to rest? It's enough to make kings and vagabonds Believe the very best There's a time for everyone If they only learn That the twisting kaleidoscope Moves us all in turn There's a rhyme and reason To the wild outdoors When the heart of this star-crossed voyager Beats in time with yours And can you feel the love tonight? (Tonight) It is where we are It's enough for this wide-eyed wanderer That we've got this far And can you feel the love tonight? (Tonight) How it's laid to rest? It's enough to make kings and vagabonds Believe the very best It's enough to make kings and vagabonds Believe the very best

FYI: All LDS chapels, at least in the US, have and use an organ for all Church meetings every week. I have not, personally, been to any Chapels in other Countries but I feel certain that they also have one in each. There are usually several people also that can play it. As well as the one in the Conference Center and Tabernacle.
