Linear Algebra on Khan Academy: Have you ever wondered what the difference is between speed and velocity? Ever try to visualize in four dimensions or six or seven? Linear algebra describes things in two dimensions, but many of the concepts can be extended into three, four or more. Linear algebra implies two dimensional reasoning, however, the concepts covered in linear algebra provide the basis for multi-dimensional representations of mathematical reasoning. Matrices, vectors, vector spaces, transformations, eigenvectors/values all help us to visualize and understand multi dimensional concepts. This is an advanced course normally taken by science or engineering majors after taking at least two semesters of calculus (although calculus really isn't a prereq) so don't confuse this with regular high school algebra.
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything

In 45 seconds of watching this, I learned more than my entire hour and 15 minute long lecture.

How exactly did you learn something in 45 seconds? He didn't even explain anything in the first 45 seconds. Just what kind of professor did you have?

15:44 you say this is almost trivially simple or obvious but its only because you have boiled the concept down to the fundamentals in a beautiful way. Thank you!!

I couldn't find out what they meant by coordinate vectors anywhere. There are only definitions and how to find it. But no where did it specifically lay out what we were doing. You're awesome, and please keep it going! Math should be understood not just mechanically done, as you show in your videos!

Omg, I love love love you!!!! My bloody patronizing professor (who clearly has some sort of breathing difficulties as he always says "okay..." at the end of every sentence) took an hour TRYING to convey this concept to us and you did it in less than half of the time! God bless you! Know wonder America has 8 of 10 of the worlds top universities all of which is due to the quality of teaching.

This was great, thank you. Now, why do they throw the ortogonal coordinate system at us in the middle school as if it was the only coordinate system and having nothing to do with vectors? It gets so stuck in the students mind that it becomes almost impossible to accept this "new" reality, the truth. Thank you, again.

At the start, how come you say V belongs to Rn, and then the basis B in V is k-dimensional? shouldn't it be n-dimensional as well?
@olumidevic6230
@olumidevic6230 10 жыл бұрын
For basis, dimension has a different definition. It is the number of vectors in the basis. I know its confusing, but that's how algebra is.
