We were some of those ticket holders who didn't get in. The police and security kept telling us to wait, all the while they knew the seats were full and we were never getting in. We finally gave up around 10pm when a sheriff told me they weren't letting anyone else in. Hoping we can get a refund for our tickets but not optimistic.

The negligent behavior is astronomical. The fact that organizers didn’t cancel the game baffles me. How do you not cancel an event where there is a security breach and danger to be open. Organizers consciously decided to keep the game going and completely disregarded the safety of the common folk and players. This could’ve easily been a much more bigger disaster. The organization showed negligence and I urge anyone who was there to get a lawyer because this is unacceptable.

@@numi8985 I think the majority of the public agrees with you considering the mass amount of outrage against Colombians across social media platforms. However, it is important to shine a light & condemn the negligence of the event organizers. Their actions afterwards were not up to par with event safety. If an artist were to have had this type of security breach in a concert the event would be cancelled due to gross amount of liability. Why can’t Copa America do the same? It is time to pay attention to the fruit that the tree bears and demand safety to be a priority for us in such large events.

​@@numi8985it's Miami 200k Colombians live there plus all the thousands that flew in. Miami has 50k Argentines plus the thousands that flew in. Plus you have thousands of non Colombian and non Argentines that are also there wearing whatever jersey they support. It wasn't all Colombians and the blame falls mostly on organizers, police department, and security for not properly setting up perimeters way before the main gates to filter out people. The parking lots were packed for parties and drinking there must have been at least 200k ppl in the parking lots that Al l walked to the gates. I've been to major events like Russia 2018 and they always have several checkpoints to filter people into the right gates and filter out people without tickets.

Gate crashing has been a thing since I can remember. English EPL fans know all too well (1980s!!!). I was at a concert in the 90’s and thousands rushed the gates. It was the one of the most frightening things I’ve ever witnessed. Unfortunately if you don’t plan correctly and you have a larger demand than supply humans will act irrational. You have to plan for this in big events.

@mackdeen7021 Back in the 80s, my father took me to see the Pope in Poland. After the event, a mass of people tried to exit the polo grounds, and the gate was not wide enough. I remember being crashed by people around me but eventually being able to exit. Folks were passing out, and it's impossible to breathe at that point.

@@bkbaughn ok blame the fans. Now what? Instead of blaming drunk idiots without tickets how about doing what they do in the Super Bowl and have Two security check points before you go to the gates. You can’t even enter the pregame festivities outside the stadium without a ticket and perimeter security check. . Then when you enter the stadium you go through the stadium security check with tickets (metal detectors bag check etc) then you go to the gate to show your ticket to enter the stadium. . No chance for “bad fans” to rush the gate, also having secure perimeters keep people safe in the fan zones. This is what is done all over the world for big matches. Better planning and not leaving it solely up to ticket companies (stub hub, vivid seats etc) on distribution and grouping fans better we would have not had all these issues.

This report and interview is so well-done and provided helpful insights. My wife, 13-year-old daughter, and I attended the event and experienced it firsthand. The eloquent truth expressed in the coverage has been valuable for processing our experience. When we arrived at the gates around 6:30 PM, we were met with a large crowd of thousands behind us. To avoid potentially being trampled, we had to escape the crowd. While we witnessed some of the more challenging aspects of human behavior in the crowd, it's important to acknowledge the many kind people who stepped up to help children and those in need, including my own daughter. Despite the difficulties, there were also moments of compassion and community spirit that are worth highlighting. It's a resale... Tickets was controlled by Ticketmaster. I tired to get a pair of pre-sales tickets, but there's was a huge queue. FIFA and UEFA would never have other markets to sell tickets. UCL is controlled by UEFA, you need an active passport and it goes by lottery draw.

After seeing the Colombian fans target family of Uruguayan players in the stands in Charlotte (a place not exactly known for its Colombian demographic), you didn't think that the final, being played in MIAMI would be a problem? The tri-county area in Florida is made up of Cubans, Venezuelans, & Colombians (in that order). There is a massive Colombian population here. The organizers are so out of touch with reality.

Having attended the USA/Bolivia match I am not surprised that these unfortunate events occurred prior to the final. The USA/Bolivia match only had an attendance of around 47k in an 80k capacity stadium (AT&T stadium) and even then there were red flags all over the stadium regarding operational logistics for hosting a sporting event. From entering the stadium to security presence to straight up not having any concessions open on the upper tier of the stadium. We witnessed stadium employees rushing around to open concessions 30 mins prior to kickoff, citing that they were not expecting this many fans to attend. It was really disappointing to see how poorly organized everything was. I’ve been to sold out (80k in attendance) Gold Cup matches at AT&T stadium and never witnessed that level of unpreparedness. From stadium logistics to scheduling matches in the heat of day at outdoor stadiums, CONMEBOL seriously dropped the ball with putting on a complete and desirable spectacle of this great tournament in a country that has so much to gain from the beautiful game.

Whoever is blaming the fans for the complete failure of the organization of the Copa America in the USA is a complete fool and is part of the problem why soccer always fails in this country. Copa America was a failure from the beginning. 1) the turf was not apt to play on. Repeatedly coaches and players were complaining about the condition of the grass, how it was just layed down in some instances a few days before play, etc... This affects the outcome of games and the quality of play, YES! The ball would bounce around much more than normal because the seems of the grass were faulty, the footing of the players, etc.. 2) Safety of the player's families in the stadium. We saw this in the Uruguay/Colombia game. Absolutely unacceptable for this cup. 3) The refs were pathetic all Cup, we can agree on that. 4) The final was embarrassing the delay in the start, the chaos to get in after spending $2k a ticket, the 30 minute halftime charade (players cramping up in the dressing rooms waiting to get back on the pitch), etc... 5) Weather, Miami in July?? Who thought this would be a good idea for a final?? Players clearly fatigued, slow, etc.. These are just a few of the failure points. It is clear that in this country there is no respect for the game of soccer. It is treated like a 2nd class game for 2nd class citizens. Do you think there are no hooligans in Europe? Do you think there are no crazy fans coming in from all over the place trying to start trouble in Europe? Of course there are! But, in Europe soccer is king and the organization of the EuroCup, for example, is a major event and treated as such, with world class organizers, world class security, world class fields, world class refs, world class everything. In the USA, you get a bunch of amateurs running around trying to fill their pockets, doing the very minimum, without a clue of what it means to organize this type of event. It is a complete lack of respect for the sport and USA shouldn't be awarded these events if they can't meet the most minimum standards. Bielsa is right, the coaches are right, the players are right: USA's organizing committee got everything wrong and Copa America was a complete failure. And if you want to try to blame the fans, you're a fool and part of the problem. And the media is of course going to always blame the fans because we know the media is bought and paid for, just like Bielsa said to their face.

There were people who had no tickets and had no expectation of tickets who came to the stadium. That caused a major problem. For the 2026 World Cup they're going to have to put a 1 mile perimeter around the stadium and no one can enter within 1 mile of the stadium unless they have a ticket to the World Cup or show proof that they live in within that 1 mile radius.

CONMEBOL is NOT responsible. The US wanted to have the tourney in their grounds, they cut corners to get even MORE money than was already coming in and a LOT came in only to point their finger at CONMEBOL. I don't know who Felipe is, but the problem is in a smaller number of viewers - now through the videos and photos you can see Colombian t-shirts. and in Colombia they don't respect anything, let alone entering the stadium. Conmebol is partly to blame, but if people are civilized there is no problem. The Michigan stadium with a capacity of 107 thousand people has not had that problem even in the Superbowl, concerts, etc. What has been done is not justifiable.

I was there and had tickets. I arrived around 5pm and the gates were closed and occasionally let a very small amount in. I never saw any security or organizers try to direct crows or announce that the game was delayed. I haven’t received an email from the event apologizing for this craziness. I was able to find my seat around 8pm and the stadium was half full. Anyone with a tickets were patiently waiting at the game in the heat, I can’t understand why hold the gates closed to people waiting to get their tickets scanned.

One vlogger arrived half an hour early and they weren't letting anyone in. Then they said the game was postponed. An hour later, they still weren't letting anyone in, so fans rushed the gates. All during this time, the stadium was filling up with people - even though they weren't letting any ticket holders in. Go figure.

82 minutes of delay… because of lack of communication and security, the “so call fans” trashing and forging their way to entering the stadium and not having any ticket or purchase. A ticket is disgusting, which ruined the game and ruined any respect from themselves and other people who actually bought ticket.

Lack of security rings in Charlotte and in Miami, this was not the case at Metlife. Beyond the security issues, kids separating from parents, people with heat strokes, etc, the fields were a disaster, you can put real grass 3 days bf the games. They endangered players with a disregard for playable field. The UY players families were stuck in a stampede. They didn't learn then, in Rio, in Libertadores, not ever because all they care about is money. FYI Copa America is the oldest international competition.

I know that FIFA will do a better job at handling security when the World Cup is here in another two years. But it’s still a bad image. You’re talking about two South American teams, one of which is the current World Cup winner. Of course the crowd will be much more chaotic than just a normal game. CONMEBOL really dropped the ball on this. The US has hosted the World Cup before and I’m more than certain that FIFA will have much better security measures in place.

Football/ Soccer fans are another breed. They need to learn from European soccer crowd control. It all starts on the outer perimeter. If act like a hooligan before you enter (and I'm talking 100's of yards away from the entrance you get detained. Clearly, there was none of that outside of the stadium. True but NFL games have better security and perimeter ticket control than these games did. And NFL fans are not nearly as fanatical. The security was more than lacking it was literally non existent for most of the games. In Miami they actually had automated scanner and a turnstile manning the gates! No excuse.
