I've known a few morbidly obese people. One thing they all had in common was depression. I'll relate one though... I used to teach, but in summer I often drove summer day camps for a friend's bus company. Important to the story is the old farm house that served as the office, was subdivided into apartments. The man I'm discussing lived in one. He was so large it honestly took him as long to walk the fifteen yards from his door to the bus as it took me to walk the mile to the deli up the road and back. One trip, I went to check on him (he never left his bus once in it, and those things can hit 110 inside when parked in the sun). He was ok and eating his lunch. He proudly showed me his new brand of chips was (I don't remember exactly) only 250 calories per serving? Whatever. The point is, he ate two bags honestly believing that "a serving" was whatever amount he ate at one time. He was in horror when I explained to him there were several servings per bag. He actually hadn't understood this. He was screaming and crying at me like I'd shattered his hopes. I got fed up with him after that. I regretted later that I didn't keep up on him. I'm not here to criticize his lack of education or even his eating habits. What I want to point out is this... He was a very nice man and he was my friend. One day he wasn't on his bus. It was a very early trip with four of us taking a group pretty far away, so we were scheduled in at around 5:30 AM. Normally, my friend would already be on his vehicle before the rest of our team arrived. I started his bus. The boss was calling him on the radio. I answered and told her "No, he's not here. He probably overslept." She told me to knock on his door and that she was on her way there. Shortly thereafter, the owner's daughter arrived. She did not have to be there for hours. We all had our keys and knew where we were going. I also helped out in the garage so I had keys to the diesel pump... No need for the owners to be there yet. She came in because the driver hadn't answered his wake up phone call, nor responded on the radio. We found him. She opened the door to his apartment and I went in with another driver that had arrived. The man was dead on his couch. He was 32. Heart attack was the coroner's official statement. He ate until he dropped dead was the reality. Folks, that kind of obesity isn't ok. It's a sign of deep emotional problems that need help. You help no one in that situation by "supporting their body image." If you honestly care about them, you have to support them by kicking their ass to lose weight, or your going to be supporting their casket.

I really do appreciate the officer asking if the person had any recent head trauma. As a 'head trauma survivor', I would not be able to pass most of the balance tests that are common when field testing. I once pulled over to the side of an interstate when I felt a little dizzy. An officer stopped to check on me (I appreciated that). My wife had a single glass of wine with dinner, and the officer smelled the residual wine from her breath in the car. I told him I could not pass the balance tests, and asked for a breathalayzer test. A car was called in that had such a unit. I was surprised that I blew a .02. I do not drink. The officer asked what medications I take and I brought a list from my wallet. He pointed to one and said it would give a slight positive. He smiled and asked how long until I could leave. I had taken some medication and figured ten minutes. All good, he left. But the question was valid. Have you had head trauma? So why can't the woke crowd simply answer the question.
