Copenhagen Pickpocketing Attempt in Nyhavn caught on GoPro.
After getting off our cruise ship, we checked in our luggage at the airport and toured the city for the day since our flight did not depart until the evening. We had a gopro mounted on the shoulder strap of one of our backpacks. The amazing thing is that our son did not look up once from his ipad during the incident.
This was a team of 3 people. See if you can spot them all.

Just be as vigilant as you can. I was just in Paris for 7 days and was ready and alert. Someone did unlock the purse of my wife but didn’t get the flap open... stay away from people but don’t look scared. They are in packs so be careful...

I had an identical situation in Florence many years ago. I saw a gypsy trying to put her hand in a tourists bag so called out to the tourist to close her bag quickly. There were a group of gypsies working as a gang. In fact at that time there was a big pickpocket problem in Florence. The gang pushed her backwards against s shop window, all the while distracting her, holding a newspaper up against her motioning for money. Then one of the gypsies went round the side of the tourist and attempted to help herself to the purse in the bag. When I called out one of the gypsies walked over to me, walked so close I had to walk backwards and spat at my face. I was about eighteen at the time but I can remember it as clear as day. I was frightened and disgusted. When I hear about gypsies protesting about being marginalised I wonder if that would be the case if gangs of pick pockets didn’t frighten and harass people. I don’t approve of marginalisation, ever, there is no excuse. But I don’t approve of the menacing behaviour I personally experienced. Menacing behaviour I have sadly experienced several times from such gangs in big cities all over Europe.

I caught some pick pockets in Venice two weeks ago. They were trying to steal from a young girl, i shouted out and told the girl about they were following her to try and steal from her bag. Luckily the girl had her wallet and phone in her hand. I wanted to punch them, it made me so angry to see them targeting people like that. But i had my wife with me and i would never want to out her in danger like that, as we were alone on holiday there and you never know how many of them are in a gang watching.

guy in the white shirt was part of it too, they were passing things back and forth and placing them in the bag under the sweater, then when the others got caught he suddenly ducked right into the store like he was nothing to do with it and i suspect they had already pick pocketed the guy holding the camera as i suspect that's where the items came from that they were placing in the bag.

Same thing happened to my husband in Florence, he was student then and was backpacking with a friend. He had a waist bag with his passport and money. They were surrounded by a group including teenagers and pregnant woman , asking for money, my husband said no. Luckily a good Samaritan witnessed it a he immediately approached and told to check. The (thief)woman from the group, had taken the passport, from the waist bag. If that man was not there my husband would be stuck in the foriegn country.

Peaches, you have to watch the whole video to see this scenario play out. How many pickpockets on this team? The first two were obvious from the beginning. But the man in the white T-shirt for was part of the team for sure. You first pick him up at 1:15. Pause the video and you see the look he makes right at backpack man. Then he catches up with tall sweater man just before the street narrows. The two men share a look or maybe a word as they are the block for the woman to make her move. The older Asian man was really close to being mugged. Really close! The Samaritan disrupted everything. Then white t-shirt man stops to light a cigarette maybe as the warning sign. Play this part again and I think I see a look between him and the tall man. The white t-shirt man then ducks into the store and disappears while we focus on the strip shirt woman and the tall man.

Also be aware that in London there are large gypsy gangs operating in the Marble Arch area near Oxford Street. They roam all over London or on the Edgeware Road begging and have cards explaining that there are hungry and need to feed their families. And that they want your money. It’s interesting to watch them suddenly pull out their implements of crutches, bandages and little children to get your sympathy and your money! The police say that they make a lot of money so do not feel sorry for them. Also in the underground trains, not necessarily gypsies, pickpockets in general like to operate there. Bags with flaps or satchels are a prime target. As I live in London, I try not to walk around with a bag on my shoulder. Everything is put in my pocket in the front where I can always feel that it’s there. You learn to travel with a small wallet and your phone and look for people moving in the opposite direction of the crowd as they are looking for their next victim.

Has come as far as Canada now that Bulgarians can travel without a visa. Around 2 years ago lots of women showed up in various wealthier high traffic areas or subways with signs all saying something similar. Syrian asylum seeker, single mother of 3 children, can’t feed children. There were multiple women with the same signs and in the same hand writing showing up in the same spots daily for months and they would gather together once in a while and get aggressive if they weren’t having a good day. Many are also claiming asylum and getting welfare. This is highly organized.

I actually know of an occasion ages ago at a zoo here in Sweden where they had problems with pick pockets so decided to put one of their animals in a bag, think it was some kind of rat, and a member of staff walked around with it. It worked and the pick pocket eventually got badly bitten. This was before PC-culture kicked in.

I got picked in Prague, but I have a rule when traveling of using a dummy wallet for local money in small bills for fares and snacks. I kept credit cards and large bills in a safe inside pocket or a money belt. Keep the wallet in your front pocket. I was on a subway and this guy was bumping into me in the front. I was leaving for Germany and used up all my local cash and just had some useless coupons and an old Blockbuster card as a fake card, so that’s all he got away with! 😂😂😂

There are couple of tricks I use when going abroad, especially Europe. Don't be too flashy, that is carrying a nice watch or jewelry and designer clothing. Don't stand still around crowds and if you have to, move position every 20 seconds or so or sweep your arms around your back every 3 seconds. Check your surroundings, if there are people who are staring at you, make eye contact, that is probably a pickpocket, other tourists don't stare other people. Purchase a waist wallet and wear it inside your clothes. Remember to be vigilant, these people are very skillful in what they do. They will follow you to restrooms and even hotel elevators (stand with your back to the wall and if you have a light sweater or rain jacket, wrap around your waist. These travelers were using an Osprey backpack, use the rain cover. They are not stupid, if they find a hard target they will move on to next.

At the beginning when they bought a sausage the pickpockets saw where they put their wallet, then the chase was on. The woman is the stealer who then passes it on to the guy in the t shirt.

Very good observation. Of all the comments, this is the best. You absolutely get it. They hang around places where tourists pay for goods & food looking for targets. They then watch to see where tourists put their money. Many viewers do not see the whole picture of what is transpiring or become fixated on the moment the pickpocket attempt happens.

Roma, my area of Glasgow has over 4000 of them in it and has turned into a crime ridden, rat infested, I mean literally, rats in the streets due to the squalor, third world slum. Re the pickpocketing, I noticed a Roma gang operating on one of our main shopping streets, Argyle Street, a few days ago. They were operating in pairs in close proximity to each other, I saw two older males crowding two young women when there was no need to be so close to them, it was to get access to the bags over their shoulders. They knew I'd spotted them and saw my camera, when I turned around to see where they were going they were gone, had made a sharp change of direction or gone into a shop. I first saw them in operation in Barcelona and once you see their system you recognise it in other locations, always the same people. I've been physically attacked by them in my own main areas main shopping street for taking a photo, lots of witnesses but no one will give a statement to police for fear of either they themselves personally or their businesses being attacked in retaliation. Re her spitting at you, you were lucky, these people transport the HIV virus through their work in prostitution and low grade pornography, my own area has been turned into a red light district by a collaboration between Romanian, Bulgarian and Pakistani organised crime, Pakistanis provide the premises and clientele, Romanians provide the women and children in some cases and Bulgarians supply the muscle. My area has also had a huge number of fairytale romances between young Romanian women and Pakistani men old enough to be their father or grandfather, this results in a Visa for the Pakistani man and when the divorce comes through the woman marries another Pakistani man....

He's probably a cop. He recognised the crims straight away and immediately turned and pushed back through the two of them and stood between them and the tourists. The cop probably also knew the white shirt guy's role and quickly realised the grab was just about to happen. I don't think some random Samaritan would act so quickly and efficiently. The cop knew exactly what to do. He also points to the crims and says something to the tourists. The lady says thank you.

This video is quite illuminating in several ways - the 'good Samaritan' is actually an undercover cop patrolling the streets on the lookout for pickpockets. The guy in the white shirt and black cap was working with the other two pickpockets, his 'job' was to create a distraction by bumping into the 'mark' (designated target for pickpocketing) while the other two take advantage of the confusion to steal the wallet or purse. The two tourists over-reacted and put themselves in danger, instead of being 'merely' spat at, they could have been seriously assaulted. They should have just walked away and taken the video footage to the cops. If you look at the time 3:50 to 3:55 you can see the guy in the white shirt/black hat hand something which he has just stolen to his other accomplice in crime.

Oh wow. that really teaches me how less I know about these topics. When I first watched the video I was irritated, because I could not figure out who the pickpocker were till the end. After the secound time I kinda got to know that there were 2 ppl but not a 3rd one! It would also not passed my mind that this "Samaritan" is an undercover cop. Oh well I really do live in a country town where walking with an open back is not really a problem. Btw how did you observe all these things?

Or, you can look below the surface to see the many different layers of reality that make up life and discover a whole new world you didn't know was there. This applies not just to this video, but life in general. Its like neo in the matrix waking up to a reality he didnt know was already all around him, I hope you enjoy the trip...

Sort of think the Good Samaritan just noticed them fixated on his bag as he was walking in opposite direction. I did notice toward end it looked like his father’s backpack was unzipped. Near beginning one zipper pull on left top and 2 zipper pulls on right top. Latter one pull moved to the left. Maybe Good Samaritan saw the female unzip it and females next step was to take something out. If he was undercover, he would have arrested them instead of just warning family. Don’t know if white shirt guy was part of it or not. He does seem very suspicious. Didn’t see him at beginning as other 2 seemed to be scoping them out from across street as they bought their lunch but he could have been near another corner. Could see him walking on right with them in middle of video. He did have his jacket over his satchel just like female did but his satchel was on right side. Then he moves to left and between him and other guy they block view. I wonder whether his bag and jacket on right side was intentional as he might use his right hand to grab if necessary. Then oddly white shirt guy splits from them at moment the gig is up. Both guy and girl had their satchels to their left. Most people are right handed. They seemed to be positioning themselves to the dads right. Maybe wallet on right rear pocket and they’re satchels are positioned to block view of family members or traffic to the left. I’d imagine she would use her left hand and use the satchel/jacket to block view of anything stolen.

There were 3 in on that pickpocketing, there was the woman, man in Armani top and man in white t-shirt, 1 person on either side will strike an then split up. The man in white t-shirt changed direction an walked into shop to get away.

Exactly. Lots of positioning going on before their plot was foiled. But people are disappointed with the video because of the lack of action. I hope they at least learn how these pickpockets operate before they dismiss the video altogether.

The blond girl and the guy with her went back to the opposite way after they argued and she spit on the man which shows that they were really following them and not going anywhere
