ahh the pleasure of having worked all week and watching drawing tutorials on youtube.

Guys for those who have problem with the blending the copic markers bare in mind that you need to use marker paper. It will make the ink flow on the surface for few seconds so you can then mix your values. With regular paper ink will soak into the paper immediately and dry really quickly.

Yes, I wanted to just wash it with a little value and color so the line drawing was still showing through a lot. Kind of like old architectural watercolor illustrations where you can still easily read the line drawing.

The original sketch was done in my sketchbook using a Zebra ballpoint pen. Then it was printed out on a laser printer before adding the marker work to it.

I usually work on A4 or in an 8 1/2" x 11" sketchbook before scanning to render. This demo was on an 8 1/2" x 11" printout of the original sketch from my sketchbook.

I do not. I do what you are doing, a copy or a print out. Pilot Hi Tec pens work but they are not ballpoints. I work with markers light to dark.
@arncj185 жыл бұрын
even more impressive when you think it's copy paper. And i like how you pointed out on larger paper you'd get in trouble using these markers, bc of the travel distance of the line. So i wonder what you use on larger format? or is it just acrylic paint? Also i was thinking about framing some of your sketches, could i have your blessing and maybe point me in a direction where ican find 300pi jpegs of yours?

You have any tutorials on doing other materials? I'd like to be able to do a wider range of wood based renderings (for furniture design,etc). Also, I have many of the older marker books such as Dick powells presenation book. The technique though only works if using solvent based markers, like the old Speedry marker canister felt ones done on top of ball pt pen. Do you ever use AD markers or other solvent markers that allow for that kind of technique?

Hello! I just finished watching your highly informative DVDs on matte surface rendering. You mentioned in the DVD's that Neville Page was planning to make a tutorial on shadow constructions as well as making those geoforms you used available for purchase. I can't find either. Do you know if Mr. Page has changed plans? I would love to get a set of those geoforms!

I would say that the way the marker was applied over the underbody lost some of those amazing sci-fi sketch details on the underside/chassis, and that maybe some more aggressive darker lowlights where the wheel meets the ground- maybe darker than the drop shadow could accentuate the fantastic stance of this truck!

Hi, what kind of paper do you use please ? :) Thanks for your tutorial, it's a pleasure to see them.
@novusvoss9 жыл бұрын
Absolutely love watching you work and explain while I'm working myself. :) It's awesome to see you mix all those different tools and more importantly make it work! I gotta say tho I'd have loved to see you take a really dark marker or pen and add in some thin AO under the tires, in between the gear beneath the tank (sorry I don't know the real labels for those parts) and so on, just to give it another level of contrast. But I'm sure you had you're reasons not to do that and it looks great without it as well!

hello Mr Robertson, I wanted to ask do you know of ANY ball point pen that can be used as the base drawing and not smear using Copic (or equivalant) markers? I have been either doing a photocopy of the drawings or print out from art program. I'd like to corporate more "loose" sketches during conceptualization and use the markers to emphasize color/shading. I have doing the same techniques as Oliver Neuland, and so far it has worked. Do you also work shadows/dark to light?

@scottrobertsondesign10 жыл бұрын
iheb j Ha! Thanks. You need to flood the area with ink quickly and do not try to slowly fill it in with consistent slightly overlapping strokes. Also you might try working on "marker paper."
@IhebJbeli10 жыл бұрын
Scott Robertson your welcome, and thank you for the advice specially about the speed! i didnt know it but i was thinking the same about the paper even if i believe that it s not the tools wich make the difference but the person, your are so much latented and you did work hard, i can see that just from how you move your pincel, you have the speed and the prevision of things, and when i think that you did draw and design the toys with it you played as a child, i can ust say i will never be someone like you, comparing to you i'm an absolute 0 :)
