My sister and I have a crafting channel. I'm a retired police officer. I tried telling my sister that they FTC has to prove intent. Intent is what determines if they can come after you. She won't listen to me. So we just set our channel as "made for kids" ..we will wait it out.

Hello I watched your video this morning and I agree it is the most sensible one yet. Thank you so much. I was upset about this as a lot of us are, I am one of the old lady crafters, 73yrs a couple of weeks ago and I love being among the crafting community. I was just hanging in there to see what was going to happen and if they take my small channel down then so be it.I checked my Analytics and it's not showing anything, probably because I don't make enough videos. Something to think on ... Kelly Barlows creations has already have KZbin flag her videos as being directed for kids because she used dollar tree toys in her crafting. So there are things happening to the crafters because of COPPA already Feel free to check her video on COPPA

As ive said many many many times... youtube has an automated system that is going to "False Flag" videos thinking its "kid friendly" when its not. She should be able to "appeal" this. This isnt the FTC coming for her... this is youtubes stupid automated BS. AND she is a channel with over 300k subs... so yes, she will be false flagged more than others and looked at under a microscope by the ftc more than others. BUT, she should appeal it anytime youtubes automated system flags her... unless she really is making a video geared towards kids of course.

There is a channel called hair by Jordan he talked about another channel been bright and colourful he doesn't swear etc etc it's those that are making kids buy crap. He showed stuff what kids are copying it caused all this in the first place even though he didn't say it out right. Your right Stacy there is so much on the Internet that maybe others aren't aware of So there frightened 😥 I left my opinion days ago. So many kids are left to do what they want to watch on the Internet. I still think it's a parents job to monitor what there watching but I guess not everyone is like us xx

Great video with common sense. I didn’t delete my channel but I did remove my videos for now. I plan to reupload my better videos & dump the irrelevant ones. I also have some I taped but haven’t yet posted them. I want to wait & see who the FTC is going after cause they were so arrogant & threatening at there press conference. They might mess with a few crafters just for the hell of it, as examples as a scare tactic. You don’t know how money hungry they are. However, I think you’re on the money. The FTC would have to have a darned good reason to pick on someone cause they’d be wasting money with lawyers just to go after people who aren’t worth their time. I’m an old geezer who crochets & does papercrafting. How would it look to have a little old lady in court who’s crocheting away. Thanks. Tere

To save the trouble of rewording it for you. Here is what I told the lady that suggested your video to me.... COPPA has nothing to do with parents letting kids watch this or that. The only reason KZbin needs you to mark your video as "Made for Kids" is so that it knows not to use their tracking software to study that viewer's behavior. It is illegal to track kids. Parents cannot give you permission to track their kid, no one can! If you are not making videos that are specifically targeting kids, your videos are "Not made for kids." You do not need to express this in your title or description. In fact, doing so will suppress your video. Many viewers block content that is age-restricted, under the assumption that it is obscene. Your content is clearly not obscene and should not be considered "adult-content." KZbin will not erase your account bc you are under 1000 subs. That idea got sorely misinterpreted and used to gaslight a fear into masses of creators. I do hope your anxiety has lowered, though I see your still marking your video "Age-restricted." I promise you, this is not helping your channel! KZbin will track your viewers whether you keep all of that up or not. They simply need you to mark your videos that ARE "Made For Kids" as such, so they do not get in trouble with the FTC for tracking your audience. By tracking a person's online behavior, they learn what to serve that person, be that videos or ads. They want to track everyone, and they did... until they were fined millions of dollars for doing so. If you are making cartoons with lullabies, clearly your audience is kids. In that case, KZbin was tracking those kids. That's not ok. YT just needs you to tell them, "Hey, don't track this one." That's it! Please let me know if I can help you in any way! I'd appreciate you passing this info on to others who have these worries. I am friendly with many of the people most educated on this topic and am really considering sharing this video and a few others like it with a couple of them if this misinformation runs rampant amongst channel creators in the crafting community, in order to get them to make videos specifically for crafters. Most of them are in disbelief that people are still falling for the fear mongering. There is so much already been said to supress it, and yet people still believe it. Please don't! Your channel is safe! Your videos are safe! Your money is safe! 💗💗💗

I believe that is fine... here is what the FTC says in regard to children being in an adults videos... " Does the amended Rule prohibit adults, such as parents, grandparents, teachers, or coaches from uploading photos of children? COPPA only covers information collected online from children. It does not cover information collected from adults that may pertain to children. Thus, COPPA is not triggered by an adult uploading photos of children on a general audience site or in the non-child directed portion of a mixed-audience website. However, operators of websites or online services that are primarily directed to children (as defined by the Rule) must assume that the person uploading a photo is a child and they must design their systems either to: (1) give notice and obtain prior parental consent, (2) remove any child images and metadata prior to posting, or (3) create a special area for posting by adults, if that is the intention. " Basically what is being said is, its fine to have your child in your video because you are the parent and obviously give consent for your kid to be in the video. .... BUT you can be on the safe side and turn off monetization and comments for that video. Now IF your channel had majority of kids in the videos crafting with moms then i would venture to guess it should be marked as a video for kids. But if they do it every now and again, i dont feel it would be an issue.

What about haul videos? We haul all kind of kids stuff but we use it in crafty or we give it to our children, nieces etc. like I did how I made my child’s Easter baskets. Or my child’s Christmas gifts.
