Copper wire separation (Do It Yourself) Stripping car looms

Sorry for the poor quality of the video,its my first try,Copper wire from cars is made from thin strands of copper which are 0.2 mm thick and can be contaminated with dirt,grease,oil and glue from the insulation tape.It is better to have a water filter as clean water means you get clean copper! The granulator runs on 240 volts single phase and has a 2 mm screen.

Hi my local scrap yard won't take the granulated copper do you called it something different when you weigh it in I have been looking at these machines

Yes I have had the same problem,some yards are not setup to handle copper granules,but if you shop around then will find a yard that will take granules,thanks for your comment.

Hello Kamat,sorry I have not timed how long it takes in the water,also it depends how sharp the blades are and what size screen is in the granulator.If I use a 1.5mm screen in the granulator then there will be almost no plastic left in the copper,but at the moment Iam using a 2.5 mm screen and when the copper is dried I put it through my vibrating screen,which can be seen in my other videos,Regards Dave

Daave what is that is cutting up the wires,multiple guillotines,strippers ? did you buy that part or make it? this is a good video but if you could remake iot with a voice over (minus noise or reduced noise or captions explaining how to make,would love to have a go)I know industrial machines chop it up and the heavier copper falls to the bottom but but I cannot figure how the insulation is seperated from the copper\,is there a spinning action ,great video and if you could explain or show the blades in action, i think you have the potential for a big hit...because a lot of scrappers would love to get that copper separated especially cleanly...

Hey up Gary,the machine that chops the copper is a granulator,i bought it second hand,it was three phase and used for granulating plastic in a factory so i had to put a single phase motor on it,It now runs on 240 volts and a 13 amp plug in my garage.The plastic is separated from the copper in the water chanell,as the chanell gets wider (the aluminium part)the water slows down so the water is flowing too slow to wash the copper away but its quick enough to wash the plastic away,I will make another video to explain it better.ps i like your man cave(it reminds me of mine when i got divorced)and get that blood pressure down mate

How much was it ? Can you convert a plastic granulator or is that the same thing ? I know someone that has a plastic granulator to make chips .,ye s please make another video I am trying to keep this place clean then start on the rest of the place with a room for filming and photographing furiture

I re read it ,still at a quandary how the water manages to separate,I guess after the granulator the copper and and plastic are very loose and does not take much to separate them..I am tryng to find a paper shredder to make a simple stripper by grinding away the teeth.

yup the granulator chops the copper wire until it fits through a screen that has 2mm holes in it,so when it goes down the water shoot the plastic is already stripped from the copper.but don't forget the plastic does not float on water,you still need a way to separate it from the copper

arrgh garry the granulator was £850 ,a plastic granulator is basicily the same i think(iam not an expert) i just had to make a new screen an change the motor

Hi,no I dont think a wood chipper wood work because it does not have a screen.Its important to get equal sized chopped copper and plastic for good separation.

Hello sir , me again still trying to get around the granulator, don't have one . And eBay is about $700 to 1,500 . Have you ever seen a hammer mill that uses blades? Some call it a grinder, mill, hammer mill. ? I'm a welder steel worker by trade so I " think " I can make it work . What do you think ?

to start watch my videos and you will see most of the details,its realy quite simple I used just a normal plug hole in the centre of the bottom and cut out the centre grid of the plug hole to give better water flow.,make sure your input and outflow pipes are cut flush with inside of the barrel and make sure your water input points the correct way ,google the coriolis effect and depending if you live in the northern hemisphere or southern hemisphere your water will naturally spin left or right and there is no point making your water pump fight against the rotation of the earth.
