I do use it occasionally but after reading Ed Engle's book, "Tying Small Flies" where he outlined the merits of different threads including Danville's 6/0 (70 denier) Flymaster, I decided to give it a try. For me anyway, it just plain works. By the way, Ed's book is worth its weight in gold, a treasure trove of information.

I use reading glasses when I tie, usually +2.50 but go to +3 on #20s and below.

Couldn’t catch a fish today until I put this fly on. 18 fish up to 10.5 lbs. hell of a fly.

I am one of the lucky few that has a really good fly shop right down the street from my house so that's where I shop (an incredible luxury). There are many quality online stores however that sell fly tying materials, perhaps someone else here can recommend one they like.

I'm a long time subscriber and really dig your videos. This particular one has a wealth of tips that will carry through to other patterns as well. I read in the comments below, you mentioned using reading glasses and I laughed (with you, not at you) as I've noticed the need for the same, especially stream side when trying to tie on flies. Thanks for another great pattern and video.

Your fly tying videos are the best, much appreciated. For the small flies, do use any type of magnification device, and if so what type, and if not what would you recommend? thx

Did you smash the barb with the vise at 0:35? Is this OK to do, without damaging the vise? Beginner here...

In Colorado Tail Waters I catch more trout on size 20 - 24 in the winter than anything else. Even in the summer hanging a size 20 zebra midge off the back of a size 14 Copper John, I catch as many on the midge as the nymph. It takes skill to bring in a 16" to 20" trout on a size 20 using #6 tippet. Just remember it's not Bass fishing where you jerk it in, you have to use finesse and love it a little, caress it, massage it, be gentle and it will get there for you.

I've seen in a few of your videos that you "secure the wire with the tip of the bobbin" as you helicopter it off, what is that doing? Thanks!
@tightlinevideo10 жыл бұрын
The bobbin nozzle helps to stabilize the hook shank while you rotate the wire otherwise, you are putting a lot of strain on the hook thus weakening them. Hope this helps.
@abelgoodwin198810 жыл бұрын
Ahh, I understand. It does help as I'm new to this! I should probably widen the legs on my bobbins; The hook tends to lean towards the direction the thread is pulling - weakening the hook - That's the principle, right? Thanks for all the videos, really enjoying tying and seeing a master work!

I'm a beginner at fly tying and your videos are very informative and helpful! Where do you buy your materials? Do you have any suggestions for where I can buy quality materials for a decent price? Thanks!

Not my area of expertise, at all. I simply don't know. But good luck with the stillwater fishing, I've seen some videos and it looks like a lot of fun.

Nice fly and well tied as usual but why don't you use 14/0 thread and make life a bit easier for the smaller flies?........Alister

How do you fish this fly? Obviously it's a wet fly, but just dead drift? How far down---as in half way to bottom, bouncing off bottom, or float in top film?? Thank you
@tightlinevideo8 жыл бұрын
+Woodrow McWilliams Although everything you said will work just fine, this is one of my favorite patterns to fish hung about 2 feet off the back of a nice floaty dry fly like a Wulff or even a Chernobyl Ant. Fished that way, I think most of the time it rides about a foot below the water's surface. Right now is about the time of year it starts to work really well.

Ditto! Read the last line of my message. A JOKE! Relax a bit. Were only talking about fishing not world politics. No one questioned your skill. Fly fisherman are supposed to be one big happy family. Take a deep breath, sit back and relax. Life is good!
