Here's an excellent little mayfly nymph. Stillwaters, rivers or streams it's proven itself on many outings! Enjoy and thanks for watching!

Can you fish this pattern under a strike indicator in bigger rivers? Or is this strictly a stillwater pattern?

Its looks good. This new trend with coating flies in epoxy and now uv coat makes them no longer even look like flies but insects trapped in amber. Guess we must follow the trend of the day

Lovely fly pal, could you please tell me the best way to fish, All the best Pete from Scotland.

peter buckley best fished during mayfly hatches, can be fished with a floating line and long leader, cast fly out giving ample time to sink to the bottom then work the fly back using a slow hand twist retrieve, the naturals make there accent slowly towards the surface at about a 20 degree angle so this is what you want to try and imitate. On a breezy day you can also drift them under a strike indicator. Hope this helps! Cheers and thanks for watching!

Isn’t a size 12 a bit too big for a baetis
@BCFlyguys
@BCFlyguys 5 жыл бұрын
Jim Slade not according to the fish that hammer this pattern in this size and considering the popular sizes for mays/Baetis are 14-18 nymph hooks which are typically 2xl, a 12 1xs scud hook is right in the wheelhouse of sizing. If you put this particular fly next to a size 14/16 2xl nymph hook it would be the same size or even smaller. Sizes in just numbers don't mean much as in 10,12,14 the type of hook and overall size of the bug you are tying is much more important. Take a 2xl nymph hook and put it beside a 1xs scud hook and you'll see exactly what I mean.
