4:05 this was the prime of the game in my opinion. guilds were so active because of these maps, friends would be online all the time, the damage cap was reasonable, the time it took to level up those pesky 160-170s was just good enough to not just straight up quit the game, the family system still worked if i remember correctly, and there was just enough class variaty to feel unique and also not overwhelmed.

Party play LHC was indeed peak maple imo as well. Was the first time I really got into the meat of 4th job on my main and even got a few others into the 130s. Making it into a nearly full crockies party at level 110 was bliss. Really allowed strong and weak players alike to team up to form full parties and scratch both the mobbing and mini-bossing itch.

@jessemoe7272 жыл бұрын
It's not gated to late game at all. Not on reboot atleast
@Roflmao61732 жыл бұрын
@@jessemoe727 it kind of is, depending on what your definition of late game is. Unless you get carried, a lot of people will opt to solo up till lomien. Partying only starts at like luwill, which is relatively far in for a casual player to have actual contribution. In some manner of speaking it can be considered late game cause of how long it would take a casual player to reach that point, even though of course in the strictest sense of the term it is not at all near late game of the content available in maplestory. In the past it started right from lvl 21, and even earlier once henesys pq was introduced. Of course, with hyper burning that will hopefully no longer be considered "late game" even for a casual player.

@@Roflmao6173 I made a good bit of friends early on when I came back in the beginning of October. and we have a guild now and do bossing together. Out of the 10+ friends I made this month. I talk and group with 7. Whether helping our mules, bossing, arcane daily party quests etc.. I didn't even sit in henesys making these friends either. You forgot a brief period of time where exp stacking was meta. After family system was released, we also saw the start of hot time events, along with regular event exp coupons, and cash shop coupons. Exp stacking worked a lot differently back then, where everything was multiplicative. 2x hot time * 2x event exp * 2x cash shop (8 hour) * 2x family system (personal) * 1.5x holy symbol * 1.5x family system (party) meant 36x exp. Party Quests dropped off in later lvls, so high lvl players would stack as many multipliers as possible. Shortly after Arans came out, I remember grinding for 16 hours straight at Galloperas with all the buffs saved up. The progress was better than literally weeks of grinding.
@Roflmao61732 жыл бұрын
I remember there was like a 30min 2x event or something and I was grinding at Galloperas and my friend who was a Soul Master, the king of KS back in the day of soul driver, was "trolling" me and KSed me for the entire duration. I was really pissed

This was exactly how I leveled up from 100 to 121 in one night and got my first 4th job. Lv50 PG mule Bigfoot leech with a server 3x exp event + 2 different 2xp cash shop coupons + hs + 2x coupon + family 1.5x/2x. Saved me weeks if not months of grinding in just one night.

The original Sharenian guild quests were one of my favourite experiences back then. Back when the guild quest had jump quests, puzzles, strategy and required real communication and teamwork. It was a thing that was done only with really good friends. The current "guild quest" is just to go in and hit the monster as hard as you can. You don't even need to talk to anybody from your guild now.

I really liked doing stuff like Ludi PQ and later Monster Carnival. I think something like that could still work for a game, it just needs to be significantly faster so that you'd only redo it for extended periods while making many different characters OR every character needs to be able to just easily switch between all the classes. When you have dozens and dozens of classes, making it so that each one takes MONTHS to level, just doesn't work out.

Not surprising but party play meta certainly my favorite, and seems like many others feel the same. Not only party play zones with mobs of tanky “mini-bosses” like LHC, but even the old standard map grinding in parties. There’s something similarly satisfying about clearing mobs quickly together in separate areas of the map compared to the whole party teaming up to take down a group of LHC mobs. I think the recent 10-100 event map mechanics have potential to bring back some semblance of party meta. Seems the current farming meta is one hitting mobs and clearing maps solo, but if every player’s mobs were “instanced” like these event maps, perhaps players could party up to share buffs, chat while grinding, and have fun together somewhat like the old days without sacrificing their efficiency.

PQ meta was the most memorable for me, cuz youd actually spend the time between rounds socializing. I honestly think maplestory should encourage party play throughout the entire game, early to late game. Its hard to justify playing with a friend when you'd just solo grind most of the time, it feels more like a single player game. The game actively encourages you to try and solo things, the boss crystals literally lower in value with the more people you have in the party.

Imo, preBB was the golden age. Bigbang was such a huge overhaul and a lot of people were not ready for the changes. Also in my own experience, I felt the game losing it's prime when ascension came. When RED was released, it got a nice spike overall just because it was a massive positive change to majority of the players which were explorers. The only thing I see why people still remember this game is because of how important the social aspect of it was back then. We keep remembering the fun we had with the people we met. Hours of playing just to talk which adds to the reason why it took days to weeks just to reach 30 but we didn't care. Every major city in Victoria island had a massive group of players just talking and sharing stories. PQs were beautiful, guilds were like family, and party grinding was extremely fun. Playing now, I only see barely half of what prime henehoing was and they don't even talk.. they just AFK with fancy chairs. I don't hate it I guess but I would love to experience 2006-2015 maplestory again.

PQ and party grinding were definitely the best times. Maplestory as it is now might as well be an MSORPG instead of an MMORPG. Which sucks because if Nexon tried to bring that style of play back they'd either have to rework nearly 10 years of power/utility creep due to every class being able to clear entire maps solo or to make maps so ridiculously large that the additional utility becomes useless.
@bradyvilhauer44452 жыл бұрын
