Around 6 AM on August 6th 2024 Darney Cockrell called Mesa Arizona Police to report that his 4 year old daughter had just been abducted. While on the phone with the dispatcher, he was told to go outside and see what dirction the kidnapper went. As he ran down the stairs he was confronted by a Mesa Arizona Police officer who told him to sit on the curb. He refused, so 5 minutes later when the officer had back up he approached Darnay to retaliate against him for refusing to obey his unlawful order. Him and another officer slammed Darney to the ground and handcuffed him. He was later released by other officers with no charges, and his daughter was found and returned to him. The kidnapper was found and arrested.
