In this program, Robin D. G. Kelley, Distinguished Professor and Gary B. Nash Endowed Chair in U.S. History at UCLA, examines how police in the neoliberal era-in tandem with other state and corporate entities-have become engines of capital accumulation, government revenue, gentrification, the municipal bond market, the tech and private security industry-in a phrase, the profits of death. Kelley argues the police don’t just take lives; they make life and living less viable for the communities they occupy. The growth of police power has also fundamentally weakened democracy and strengthened “thanatocracy”-rule by death- especially with respect to Black communities.
Kelley says these same communities have produced a new abolition democracy, organizing to advance a different future, without oppression and exploitation, war, poverty, prisons, police, borders, the constraints of imposed gender, sexual, and ableist norms, and an economic system that destroys the planet while generating obscene inequality. Recorded on 03/20/2024. [7/2024] [Show ID: 39780]

I was shocked when I found out that police brutality is sponsored by our government. Police departments receive government grants for arrest and ticket quotas. 🤔 I always wondered why our presidents never said or done anything to stop police brutality, it's because they are responsible for police brutality.

Thank you! for speaking on this issue. Because until you do, this certain race of people believe that, everyone is in agreement with their behavior. HEAVEN has diffrent view on this. Theres a camera going at all times. It is the eyes of the CREATOR/LORD. Proverbs 15:3-5. Everyone must speak up, as if it's you, your mom, your child, dad, grandmother etc. Because if you believe it's ok. then t's ok to happen to you and your household as well. You are charged to speak up from your platform of influence. Beginning in your home. Scriptures says : Speak up for the poor, fatherless, strangers, widows 📖type these words in Google. to know what y ou are called to do and do that. 💫 Also it's good for all to know that your life here has an expiration date. Then you will answer for choices according to: 2 Corinthians 5:10 Romans 14:12 Revelation 20 Read the whole chapters in different bibles to get a full understanding of what you will face.😮

A perfect example of complete ignorance! Give a fool a podium & they will spill "their" hate to any and all that sit and listen! The trick these days, is to spill it as educational, intellectual, unemotional, detached dribble. One that speaks soft, show pictures of "defiance", people "resisting" to spark the cause! Been working for decades!

@@The10thdrago So wrong! Let's "blaming" others...AS ALWAYS! If "we" can blame others, that eliminates "us" as our own worst enemy. The white-man, systemic racism, they won't teach our kids, blah, blah...always! the "THEY" have "taught" our "kids" to steal, rob, pimp our women, sell drugs to our own, use drugs to the point that "WE" are hopelessly addicted, on and on...THEY Did It...THEY! Now we, with our our "rap" culture preaching like Sexy Red or pick a black 20-50yr male rapper with their, "I be" stealing, I be lying, I be crack smokin', I be live, I be real...lyrics are NOT THE BLAME for negative imagery or polluting kids minds by the time they are 12yrs! I’m sorry? Are you saying that Brooks, who PASSED OUT in a DRIVE-THRU, should have been allowed to walk home?? If he doesn’t want to deal with the system, don’t break the law. All that Brooks had to do was because of HIS choices of action.

Seriously! You are comparing this man to victims of Jim Crow Laws; and victim's of slavery. A man who was intoxicated and fell asleep at a drive thru; a man who disregarded the law and legal directives: where is the logic in this speakers argument. Oh, I get it, this guy is compensated if he can help his buddie sale a book. Hey, let's talk about how a lot of middle and upper middle class Blacks abandoned and castigated many of the lower class Blacks; having an elitists attitude toward these Blacks. I myself was shunned by these elitists Blacks; Not until I graduated from college and matriculated in the finance world was I accepted; a fake acceptance in most cases.
