C.O.P.S. could be a fun franchise for Hasbro to bring back to work. It has a lot of potential to it and not just in the sense of toys. :) The characters of C.O.P.S. for both the Central Organization of Police Specialists and Big Boss and his crew were so varied and rich that it could be a fun concept to be done again. :) And to quote Bulletproof; "It's crime fighting time!"

I was six when this series originated, and I recall being very, very sad when I realized it had gone off the air. I have Bulletproof, Bowser & Blitz, Mace, and Buttons McBoomBoom action figures from the series plus a random other background "COP" not named in the roll call. And of course, I have the series on DVD. I bought it perhaps ten years ago and have never watched more than episode one, lol.

COPS is one of the 80s classics that I did catch when I was young. Heard about it here and there and the previews looked nice. When I finally heard that Richard Raynis, Fil Barlow and Duane Capizzi et al who were behind the development of the brilliant and amazing The Simpsons, The Critic, Jumanji: The Series, Project G.e.e.K.e.R., King of the Hill, Extreme Ghostbusters, Men in Black: The Series, Godzilla: The Series, Dilbert, Futurama, Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles, Dragon Tales, Big Guy and the Rusty the Boy Robot, Max Steel, Jackie Chan Adventures, series, were also involved in COPS, I went ahead and bought some tapes and DVD. This series is downright impressive, mature and highly polished. The characters are all very nice and interesting. All in all, an excellent production. Perhaps if it had a movie preceding it, it would have been as well known as the also good, although slightly over-rated, the short-lived Wolf Rock TV, Alf: The Animated Series, Alf Tales, StarCom, Dennis the Menace season 2, Alvin and the Chipmunks, the revivial of Beany and Cecil, and The Real Ghostbusters, also directed by Richard Raynis, which it compares favorably against. All of them are certainly the better ones of the 80s. And I watched this show in 1st-run syndication (1988 to 1990), WGN (1988 to 1990; 1992 to 1993), The Familly Channel (1990 to 1991), and CBS (as CyberCOPS in 1993). On November 21 and 28, 1989, Record Breakers pre-empted the series. C.O.P.S. was rerun the 5th time on USA Network as part of the USA Cartoon Express block (1995, under its original title). Currently, the last time the show was on American television was in 1995.

I remember this cartoon from when I was in grade school. It always felt like it was in the same vein of Robocop, but more kid friendly. I remember the character Dr. Badvibes vividly, because he was so weird, what with his brain in a jar on his head. I always wondered how he wound up like that, like maybe he was a cyborg that went rouge, but more likely he had it done to himself willingly as he was insane.

The studio behind great cartoons in the 1980s [Heathcliff, Inspector Gadget, The REAL Ghostbusters, The Littles, etc.] DIC. I never got off into C.O.P.S. nor watched it as a kid. (I had a hunch that it was gonna be one and done and I was riding the TMNT wave then) However, it would make a great live movie. Lawrence Fishburne would play a great Bulletproof.
