The cops indeed do know the difference between public and private, the problem is they don’t agree with how the law applies and limits their authority. Or, the cops are incredibly stupid and should not have been cops to begin with which they would never admit. I think it is a tossup between those.

That last officer he dealt with, has integrity. Credit, where credit is due! That, is how a police officer DEESCALATES a situation! THAT, is what a cop SHOULD do in every instance! Deescalate! That is a word many of them have never learned. The immediate reaction of police today is to ramp up the situation until it goes critical! The way to quickly lose control of a situation is to let it escalate! That is not going end well for anyone involved. I WANT the police to be better! I WANT to support them! But all of the bad habits they have picked up over the years have to be exercised! Their first job is to DEESCALATE the situation!

This is what happens when you wear a badge. Yet, you still don't know the law. 😐 Question- After graduation from the academy, do cops try to learn anything about U.S. Constitutional and Civil Rights? After all, they did swear an oath to the same. THIS IS WHAT ONLY SIX MONTHS OF ACADEMY TRAINING AND ZERO TRAINING ON THE U.S. CONSTITUTION AND CIVIL RIGHTS WILL GET YOU. THE MAJORITY OF THE AMERICAN POLICE ARE THE NUMBER ONE VIOLATORS OF THE U.S. CONSTITUTIONAL AND CIVIL RIGHTS OF AMERICAN CITIZENS. THIS IS NOT A CASE OF BAD APPLES. THIS IS THE CULTURE OF AMERICAN POLICING IN AMERICA AND IT IS BUSINESS AS USUAL. Section 242 of Title 18 makes it a CRIME for a person, acting under color of any law, to willfully deprive a person of a right or privilege protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States.May 31, 2021.

Good job by the supervisor because he clearly knows what's going on. However, given the fact that 'this is new to all of us', then why were to two officers so confident that they were right when they were so clearly wrong? Could they not have said, "This is new to us, so rather than guess, bluff and bully our way through this, we will get clarification from someone who actually knows the law.". But, of course, neither of those two cops did that, and in fact they seemed pleased with themselves for being misinformed.
