For police officers within the EU, de-escalation is ALWAYS the method of choice! When in doubt, it is better to let a criminal flee in order to arrest him under better conditions than to risk human lives. The use of firearms is the absolute last resort that police officers are allowed to use in the EU.
@DontPanick

Well, de-escalation should be the method of choice, but it's not always the case. Cops are just humans as well and therefore they make mistakes as well and some are just assholes as well. So sometimes they are not de-escalating and sometimes there are cases of unnecessary violence. But at least in the EU this usually does not lead to death.

Jaaaahhh... kinda? In Germany it can differ a lot. We have the "Bundespolizei", federal police literally translated, and one of their tasks is to go to bigger events to reinforce the locals. The mindset of those guys is pretty much the same as Hooligans, they go there to fight somebody. We had a lot of chaos going on on first May in Berlin, it was kinda tradition to go there and vandalize shit until the city decided to make a big, family friendly festival. It went really well and became much more peaceful, but there was one case where the Bundespolizei intentionally escalated stuff and a local cop got beaten up because he, well... disagreed with them. Although the local police in Berlin aren't exactly known for beeing saints either. Tl;dr: if you see cops in riot gear in Germany, stay away from them. Normal uniform is probably fine to approach.

remember watching a U.S. Show about cop chases (it was a few years back) and a cop was chasing a guy on a motorbike who'd made of from a gas station without paying, at about 70mph the cop ran into the back of him sending him flying of the bike the commentator then quipped something along the lines of "this guy will think twice next time before thinking he can steal gas and get away with it" i actually remember sitting there with my jaw dropped at the idea that these cops thought this was an appropriate action to take over a 40 dollar theft and the presenter thought it was "justice served"

For $40 of theft and trying to get away, someone would only get pushed off the motorbike at very low speeds (20km/h or less) if they pose danger on the streets by the way they drive away. The UK situation he was referring to was Stephen Lawrence. He was not killed by police, he was assaulted and stabbed by 6 young racist men. The criticism was that the police did not adequately investigate because they made assumptions due to his colour/race, and that it took too long to find and convict his killers, and then not all of them. Friends of mine are police officers in Germany. They are usually armed (with a pistol, not with a machine gun!). But it is very rare, if ever for one of them to draw their gun. I think drawing it let alone fire a shot is very dangerous for a German officer. It would spark so much paper work for them, they avoid it like the pest! :) It might be funny, but it is true. It is also very rare for them to need a gun. Only very few private citizen own guns in Germany. And the ones that do, don't walk or drive around with them! the basic education in Denmark takes 2½ years, after which you can continue your education, great emphasis is placed on understanding human psychology, and a great deal of energy is spent on learning to talk down a situation so that it can be resolved with as few consequences as possible, I'm pretty sure that most EU countries teach their police officers the same skills, service and safety creating functions in society, it's so rare that a weapon is drawn, in fact it often becomes a news story if it happens, even if the weapon not being used..

@@Trendkilla Except that there are plenty of jobs that are actually far more risky - and except that European cops are way more level-headed even when faced with a firearm. You'll barely ever find a European cop emptying their entire gun. There once was a case in Germany just after reunification where poorly trained former east German police confused a retiree guest in a hotel with a violent criminal and when the shocked retiree slammed the room door in their face, they shot him through the door. Police all over Germany was so embarassed that they started a nation-wide manhunt for the actual criminal that put so much pressure on him he voluntarily turned himself in. In another example, a German SWAT team was sent to confiscate the gun collection of someone whose license had been revoked. He started shooting at them through the door, hitting one officer at the edge of his vest in a way that unfortunately later proved to be lethal. Where in the US, a lot of cops would have unleashed their fury on the suspect, the German SWAT team made sure he got his day in court. THAT is the fundamental difference. US police all too often believe it's their job to eliminate any threat when their actual job is to make sure a suspect gets a trial and court finds out if they actually committed a crime and what the appropriate punishment is.

Being a police officer myself (police sergeant, technically) in Germany, I will never understand how personnel of an executive organ of the state is so poorly educated and trained. Especially with so much power and responsibility. Here in Germany, you'll have 2,5 years of theoretical and practical training including psychology, tactics, law, political education and of course the correct use of handcuffs and the weapons you carry everyday. There is even a practical exam in self defense, where you have to prove that you can use your weapons, handcuffs and self defense techniques correctly. Such things like kneeling on someones neck or using your gun inappropriately (e.g. someone tries to punch you and you shoot him) will instantly fail you. Especially with the rise of terroristic attacks, I'm not sure how some countries still manage to have unarmed officers. In our forces, every police officer on public deployment has a gun and for endangered infrastructure like airports and train stations, one officer for each patrol carries an MP5 submachine gun. Many officers in Germany have never used their gun on duty in their entire career. But having one for the once-in-a-lifetime-scenario gives a certain feeling of security I don't want to miss.

In Poland, to become a police officer you need: have Polish citizenship have at least secondary education have full public rights not be convicted by a final court judgment for a crime (including a tax offence) have an unblemished reputation enjoy your physical and mental health have a regulated relationship to military service. However, this is only the first step to becoming a police officer. If you meet the above conditions, you still have to go through the selection procedure in the form of a competition, which is not the easiest. Why? After submitting all the documents, the following are waiting for candidates for work in the police: knowledge test consisting of 40 multiple-choice questions fitness test psychological examination police interview medical committee completing the personal security survey. After successful completion of all stages, it is necessary to go to basic training at the police school lasting 6.5 months. During it, the novice policeman will receive free food and accommodation, as well as a salary without all allowances. After completing the training, there is a three-month induction period, during which the novice police officer works under the supervision of more experienced colleagues.

I know that no matter what I can always go to them and rely on help no matter how big or small the issue is, it’s pretty much a given that you’ll be met with kindness and care and that they genuinely want to help you. No matter if you’re lost, feel unsafe or need medical help or whatever you can always approach a police officer. There was always a police car stationed in a specific place in front of a mosque on my way to school and it made me feel good and safe. I struggled severely with my mental health at the time especially on the commute to school and I knew that if I’d ever feel like I might be a danger to myself I could walk up to them and ask them for help. I feel like that’s not something you could do in America. Germanys police system is definitely far from perfect we have a lot of issues with discrimination as well as an overflow of right winged people working in the police force but I still feel safe. At least a lot safer than I’d feel around other police forces. Police here focuses on making the civilians feel safe rather than enforcing righteousness. Like the people in the video said: police serves the public, they should never ever be at war with it. If people are easily able to acquire guns, and the police are supplied as common practice with guns, there will often be an extreme response to a situation. A patrol car was parked slightly back in the "live" lane near them to protect them all from traffic is my guess. However, a guy who was DUI reacted to the police car too late & tried to swerve round it at the last minute glancing off the side of the car, just missing the broken down vehicle & cops, then coming to a halt down the road due to damage. What shocked me was noticing one of the cops drew his weapon immediately on seeing the car while the others jumped out of the way instinctively. His wasn't to jump out of the way to save his life like the others but ready himself to shoot at a CAR skidding towards him uncontrollably at great speed. I've seen lots of videos where they jump or better still grab their partners & pull them out of the way too - as anyone would expect, from any human perspective. But this "trained" cop grabbed his gun as his first priority! A case of shoot first then think later no doubt.

They are more common at the airports, outside No. 10 and the Houses of Parliament but for normal Londoners in normal life I think that I’ve seen one in 40 years, when I went down a road and there was some sort of raid on a house, it was all over in 2/3 minutes and the officer with the gun was nearby but not involved in the raid, no shots were fired.

In the USA they are Police FORCES. Everyone else (such as Canada), they are Police SERVICES. The other major issue is that ex-military become part of the US police force. Military personnel are trained to escalate situations, whereas police need to de-escalate.

In Germany we are also very far from a perfect police force. We too have problems with racism, misogyny or contempt for minorities. We too have police violence, policemen who do illegal things and think they are above the law. But our problems are nowhere near as bad as in the USA. This is because the barrier to entry to become a police officer is very high. For the lowest service you need a middle education, so at least high school with SATs. For the middle service, a high school diploma, which is roughly equivalent to your bachelor's degree at college, and for the higher ranks, a master degree. This is usually followed by 3 years of training or 2 years of study in the upper ranks and then 2-3 years of probationary service. All police officers are civil servants, have taken an oath to Grundgesetz (our constitution), are employes of the country or the state (and not of towns like the US) and cannot be dismissed, so they have a different level of job security than American police officers have, on whose backs towns like to save money. Another difference arises with regard to prosecutors and judges. In Germany they are not elected but appointed. They are not state officials, but act on the basis of the Basic Law as a legal norm to which they are obliged. Half of our federal judges are elected by the Bundestag (the federal politicians elected by the people), with at least a 2/3 majority, and the other half are elected by the Bundesrat (the representatives of the federal states), also with a 2/3 majority. Election campaigns in which wives and children are dragged in front of the camera, advertising is done, etc. are not familiar to us from public prosecutors and judges, even at federal level. It's even forbidden.

In Austria they do carry guns, but PPL are actually thinking that it's a bit silly, because there is like no valid reason for them to use it.... Our state is a biit slow with bigger changes and some PPL propaby think, tasers only exist in movies^^ Once the police in Vienna held 4 guns at my head, after ringing the bell, because they thought there is a fight going on, and i just started to laugh loud while they were screaming at me, reached out for the closest gun and pointed it to the floor, while i told them "put your guns down you idiots! It's a video game, don't you hear?" They got 2 years of Police college and 3 years of practical training , aswell as lots of psychological training, while they always have to be 2 cops at least and are not allowed to start any agression, or even shoot when you touch their gun, as long as you don't act very dangerous and overly aggressive... and they can't say "it was an accident" or that their was an agression, when there was none, because the other police guys around have the same education are not just here to help, but also to control the work of their colleges and won't put themselfs in trouble, covering something up. You gotta imagine that their are no cold cases i think you call it, because every single murderer gets cought and every missed person get found at some time. It's like, no police guy would care if you roll a joint in the park, but noone would try to get away with shooting someone, not even a police guy in duty.

When talking about the policing situation here in the US, defenders often resort to saying that "it's just a few Bad Apples. There's no need to "throw the baby out with the bathwater". Bad Apples? The full adage is "One Bad Apple can ruin the whole barrel" and it is true. A bad apple emits a type of 'acid' and when mixed with a bunch of good apples that 'acid' spoils those near it causing them to emit more of the acid until all of them are infected but it doesn't stop at ruining apples. The 'sickness' of the apples seeps into the very wood the barrel is made from. So, even if you wash and scrub the barrel, if you put more apples into that barrel they quickly go bad because of the barrel.

There's been a big crackdown on police in the UK recently especially the metropolitan police force that covers London with a number of cops fired or faces charges. Armed cops in the UK are from a specialist armed unit used to protect Royal palaces and airports plus can be called up for serious ongoing incidents where weapons are being used. Most cops only have a baton and pepper spray with a few taser trained. To be in the armed police unit in the UK you need to serve for 7 years as a regular cop before applying.

I saw quite a lot of police videos from the US, mainly violating citizen rights to the extent of detaining some one based on the officer's opinion why a citizen is breaking a law. Even when the suspect is capable of citing the law and explain why he is not in violation of a law. Even excersising constitutional laws are not known by either public servant nor police officers. Like filming in public etc... Or the right to remain silent. And some officers get real ego problems when citizen know the law better than he does. That is mind blowing.

as a norwegian it is very innteresting watching american police forces work. they are going in with a gang mentality, with self preservation and pretecting the police only mentality and always escalating the smallest situation into alot that it isnt and making a kid stealing a lollipop a 1 year youth prison thing, when its just a kid making a small mistake and calling the parents and let them deal with it. im not a police but here in Norway the way they work is by trying to be as invisible as possible and only interfere when obvious law breaking occure or safety becomes a potensial risk. or when requested. they dont stop you while driving unless you did something swrong while driving or you have a broken light and things like that. and then they most often also give you rspect and warning to get it fixed as fast as possible nd no need to show that you have fixed it later. even when they are being disrespected they ALWAYS try to DEescalate the situation because a calm person do less wrong/risky choices then a threatend excited person. also aiming at a person is a massive phsycologic thing and wont happend unless absolutely nessery when aimed at or shot at, or a gun against someone else. other than that the gun stay in the belt at all times not even having a hand on it incase. what they are starting to do a little more but still just when as a last resort is to pull out the teaser. the gun drawn is an absolute last resort. and DEescalating any situation is the best way to protect everyone including the cop and civillians and the offender. they actually try to help them not breaking more laws and rules no matter what Here COPS know they are here to pretect and serve US the people. that include all of society no matter who, richest, porest, other police, ambulance, fire department, civillians, victims, the criminals. EVERYONE. in US it feels like they try to escalate as much as possible so they can give that kid as long and hard enalty as possible, also always overkill in cars showin up for the smallest things because everyone want to be able to say were there and if shooting happens everyone want to shot to be the hero. it is wrong on so many levels how they think and work. it is no others fault that they have it how they have it. be hard when it is needed, but that is exstremely rare and always have the goal of never having to draw your gun and even less shooting someone. be soft, understanding and start to f... listen to the people they are talking to. there is so many videos where they dont listen to the person at all. they start yelling and shouting immediatley and draw theire guns. and screaming to the Criminals/victims that they dont listen and they have to listen to not get shot, when infact its the cops that dont listen and blow up everything. it is insane that society is afraid of cops. that is the opposite of what it os suppossed to be. seing a cop should be the feeling of safety and everythig is under controll. you should not be afraid of braking the smallest of laws just because a cop is next to you. and therefor if you make a small mistake you get 5 years in prison. it is insane. sorry but i really struggle with how the hec.. they think and work in the police in USA. it is amasingly broken. and sad.

The problems with the police in the USA are manifold. You can't just name them a, b or c and everything will be fine. Here are a few of the most important problems: 1. availability of weapons. 2. no social system, if you don't have money you are homeless......, 3. media, which always exaggerate the crimes (less crimes since the 1990, but more reports about it), 4. no reasonable health system, 5. no education. e.g. in Germany you need about 3 years to become a policeman, like in most countries. etc.... what do you expect?

There´re only a few scenarios were they would be allowed to draw their gun, but they try to handle those without a gun as well. Just for drawing the gun they have to fill out paperwork and explain why they felt the need to draw and if they fire it, tonns of paperwork and explonation for every single bullet missing in the magazine and a hearing with the higher ups most likely also.

thanks for the reaction👍 How do I become a police officer in Germany? Requirements: at least a high school diploma. age 17 at least partially no visible tattoos Class B driver's license (car) Proof of athletic ability certain body mass index (BMI) certain eyesight. entrance tests: Written test Sport test police medical examination Job interview. if you are in: After the more theoretical basic training at the police academy, specialist training follows in the police station. Then it's all about practical work - for example during an introductory internship or an advanced internship. There is an intermediate examination between basic and specialist training. You will spend the last six months with your final training. At the end of the training there is a career test. If you pass, you'll be a law enforcement officer after about 30 months of training.

In Canada our police do typically have a hand gun, and some will have a long gun in the vehicle, but we rarely see them draw one. I work in a building with police and it still "surprises" me when I encounter an armed person (always in uniform) in the halls/elevator, etc. so... yes they are armed... but I don't think they are as likely to draw or fire it as US officers seem to be. That might be in part because so few Canadians are armed in public. Sure you go to someone's home, or a hunting lodge there may be guns but not in a car/traffic stop situation. US police seem to be predisposed to "preemptive violence" due to the danger they expect, while other countries try to deescalate or at least not resort to force as easily. Granted I don't live there so maybe I'm judging based on the worst stories coming out of the US rather than the common stories.

Here in Czech republic, there are basically two types of police. The state police that deals with serious stuff like murders, armed robberies and such and then, there is city police (equivalent of your Sheriff) thats focused on people stealing shit in supermarkets, drugs overdose, drunk people and so on, so potentialy less dangerous everyday things. Both are armed with handguns, but city police is mainly using tasers if anything, state police normal guns. Other police forces are usually divided into sections to reflect what they do (DEA, CP, highway/freeway/speedway police etc), but every single department falls under state police. There is however no equivalent to your SWAT, sure there are special police forces with fancy toys like from movies, but they do not have nearly as much "free hands -lets scream and shoot for giggles- approach" as SWAT does. There is URNA, which is basically Special forces fast response unit, but that one is Army unit, not police one. Tl;dr yes police officers in Czech do have guns, but never realy use them The problem of US police is a fact that they face way too much brutal behavior every day. As long as USA wont have normal conditions for its people to live normal lives, something to take care of them when unemployed, injured, sick, broke or homeless, simply something to lift the pressure from their shoulders, there will always be gangs, drugs, guns, nutters and dead innocent people. Killers are made, not born

Just to compare, here in Sweden they get two years of training and they do carry firearms. There is an increasing problem with gang shootings but the vast majority of people don’t carry weapons unless it’s to or from a hunting trip or to or from competitive shooting at a gun range but those people go through a comprehensive course that takes several weeks to get licensed. This makes it highly unlikely that a cop would get shot at a routine traffic stop so they don’t really have to worry about that.

In the UK police ARU Armed Response Unit are police who have been in service for a minimum of two years, they have to reach a high level of policing before they can be considered for the ARU, they continue with day to day policing while having intense training from the military, this lasts for a minimum of two years and they may not pass, most don't. In the UK police ARU if they draw their weapon but don't use it or even cock the weapon, they are taken off duty until an investigation is complete and they can justify why they unholstered that weapon, also each round fired by the ARU is counted, each year UK police fire 4 rounds for the whole of the UK police, not an average of 4 rounds each, the whole ARU 4 shots in a year.

I always hear about diversity as an exuse for crime in USA. What makes a diverse country a dangerouse one? Are the brown and black people not americans? Are white people innocent bystanders? What about social differences and poverty? I would think that poor education and social standing makes for a bigger reason for crime and violence than diversity. We are 5.4 million people in my country. 16 % of the population is immigrants. They are from all over the world. Most of them are from Europe, but we have a large islamic group from Turkey, Pakistan, Somalia, Afghanistan, Ethiopia (not all islamic) and other islamic countries. We have indians, vietnamese, chinese and thai people They are peaceful, hard working folks and we have not more crime here because of our immigrants. Crime usually comes with visitors from Europe. Though ethnic norwegians are no innocents either. The racism, your goverment's refusal to take care of their citizens and your crazy amount of guns are what is making your country a danger zone, I would think. There seems to be a major misconception about police training in the US. Yes most academies appear to be only 3-6 months long but nearly all require a 2 or 4 year college degree, typically in Criminal Justice, with some exceptions being made for military service. Compared to many European countries that have academies that double as post seconday institutions. The adavantage for European police academies is that certain skills like hand to hand training can be taught more extensively over the course of years and that a person's temperament can be better measured. Also, the comparison of the number of law emforcement agencies is deceptive. England for instance only has 17% of the population and 2% of the land area of the US. Plus while there are many individual agencies the laws, procedures, and training requirements are deteremined by the Department of Justice for each state, in turn largely dictated by the Federal Department of Justice. Additionally, the portion where they show police officers in tactical gear and try to stun the audience when they reveal them to be cops is manipulative. American police officers typically wear soft body armor under their uniforms but in the case of someone potentially using a rifle or in riot conditions they put on the more protective armor and helemts that you see them pictured in.

@@johngilchrist2926 "Also, the comparison of the number of law emforcement agencies is deceptive." mhm... let's see why "England for instance only has 17% of the population and 2% of the land area of the US." ok - so you want to adjust the number? to per capita? in my opinion the difference is sooo big, that it doesn't even need to be done, but sure, let's do it. i dont even need the actual numbers. let's assume UK has 100 law enforcement agencies (no one had that many) and US has 10 000 (they were a couple thousand above it) and because i do not want to bore you with actual math, lets just round the 17% down to a 10%, makes it nice and easy: UK: 100 US: 10 000 Population difference: 1 to 10 so either add a 0 to the UK number or subtract a 0 from US number. 1 000 vs 10 000 or 1k vs 10k we can safely say: US has ten times as many law enforcement agencies as the UK (or any other european country) and i was VERY, VERY generous and i REALLY TRIED to make the numbers look as good as possible for the US. we are still left with a factor of 10. . "My response was academic in nature not emotional." no, it was most definetly not. You would have needed to do and provide us with the actual calculations. not just some "welp, lets just do a rly shitty one where we try to make US look as good as possible" like i did. you would have needed to take and use the actual numbers to get to a per capita value. afterwards you should factor in that the UK has a way higher population density (by a factor of 8.5, according to your numbers) - which, considering every possible empirical evidence there is, should increase the potential of conflict and therefor the need for policing. . The biggest difference between American police with gun, and British police with a gun…. In America, the first thing American police you do is reach for their gun. In the UK, the first thing British police do is talk. Then a Barton is drawn. It’s then escalated to a taser. Finally they will draw for the gun. Even when they have the gun drawn, they can’t just start shootings. Either the police or the public MUST be in immediate life threatening danger! If they even just shot 1 bullet. The officer is withdrawn from active service. Until an independent review is done on the situation…… This long list of safe guards is probably the reason why you don’t hear much about British police having or using guns 😃

You've got to have a real good reason to even unholster your weapon without even raising/aiming it. Unholstering is viewed as using force and every use of force will be reviewed by a supervisor. They have to make a report of each instance. This is taken very seriously. Regular patrol officers are trained 3 to 4 years before they graduate. I got to carry a gun after 1 year of school and on the job + firearms training. The first year is like 3 months at school followed by 3 months practising on the streets what you learned in the 3 months before, followed by another 3 months school and 3 months on the job. The next 2 years were alternating between 2 months school/4 months on the job training. We are also trained in de-escalation first and foremost and use of force has to be proportional. It goes from baton to pepperspray to taser to firearm, incapacitate (legs) before deadly force. Deadly force is really a last resort for when you are cornered and have no other options. I really like what was said about SERVING the public instead of being an occupying force. I also think it's a more American mindset to shoot first or use weapons because you grow up with them, are legal and have the right to protect yourself or your property with deadly force. You also have a lot of veterans that actively fought in wars that convert to law enforcement so that soldier mindset probably isn't always a plus in the sense of de-escalation. In the US there are more guns than citizens so I can imagine cops have to take into account that everybody is armed and ready to kill you opposed to over here. I have never one day in my life feared for my life from a cop or as a cop.

In Spain, you actually have to pay for your studies to get into the police. The course lasts about a year and there are only a certain number of positions, so it is likely that if you are not among the best you will be out of a job and with less money. The cost of the course is between 1000 and 1500 euros and there are subjects including legal sciences, social sciences, technical-scientific material, etc. In addition to all this you have to pass some physical tests and a PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION TEST. Even so, there may be some bad apples, but they are definitely the least. And this is only for the "basic" police. Special forces has more rigourous training. And about payments, a rookie cop could make around 25.000 to 30.000 euros per year.

Wow! That sounds like it really makes the people who don’t have a passion for being a cop give up. It’s also nice to see the psychological tests as well. That is something we severely lack here in the states

But to be eligible to make the course... first of all, you must pass the "oposiciones", a real hard examination with several different written and physical tests. It is really hard to pass it and there are very few positions available. It is estimated that out of every 20 applicants, only 1 pass. Then you can go to the course.

Police in Sweden are armed but using a gun is the very last resort when they are in immediate danger or someone else is and they need to protect someone.. about 35 times/year a police fires their gun, that includes warning shots, about 2-3 people die from guns fired by a police officer each year, they are also trained to think on the fly and quickly assess the situation and only shooting at the body as the last resort Unfortunately in the year 1988 three neo nazis started a political party called "Sweden democrats" that has grown in Sweden and they are today in the swedish parliament, which has caused a lot of tension between immigrants and them and overall worry, causing guns to be used more in Sweden but it is still very rare to hear any gun shots

The only terrorist attack "threat" that happened in my country since I was born was a college student with a bow and arrow and darts and the biggest yearly events that the police go through are sporting events. So yeah... police would probably be fine with a wooden shield and headphones. Never saw a policemen pointing a gun, and the vast majority of them don't even have them.

In Austria, there were shot 14 people by police in 15 years. Always in self-defence, as the court decided. Usual Cops here wear Glock 17/9 mm. At places as airports or embassies the also have the Steyr A1 or A2, 5.56mm Rifle, created for military use. But to be said, we have no aggresive usual Officers here. For special cases we have well trained special forces. Google for COBRA or WEGA. They are one of the best in the world by competitions.

Steven Lawrence was an 18 year old lad, who was killed by a group of white guys in what was a racist attack. The police were investigated for their failures in the investigation of the murder. One of the attackers father was a major player in the drugs trade in London. who reputedly used his contacts and his criminal know-how to keep his son out of the dock for the murder of Stephen Lawrence. I think there is a case for the conclusionthat systemic racism existed in the Police, but as an alternative ( and certainly not acceptable in any way) theres a reasonable suggestion that the drug dealer was paying for the police to fail. Neither is acceptable,

In my country, Denmark, police have shot and killed 4 people from 2016 and 2020. I cant finde newer numbers. But we only have 6 million inhabitants. So if the number were to compared to the US we would have 55 killings done by police officers in the same period if we had 330 million inhabitants. The police in Denmark is armed. We also have special police forces armed with heavier equipment. Mostly automatic weapons and sniper riffles. But if a police officer use his gun, even to make a warning shot, a special commission will evaluate his use of the weapon

In sweden every police officer keeps a pistol on them at all times, however they rarely use them and like others stated theres a report whenever u fire u pistol, to see if it was justified or not. If its not justified yh well good luck to ur career and ull be subject to the court of law like any other citizen. We do have officers carrying heavy auto matic rifles however theyre uncommon, theyre usually at important places such as airports. If u ever land at a swedish air port ull most likely see police officers with heavy automatic rifles. Not only police officers are allowed to carry guns, we also have smthn called skyddsvakt, which is kinda like a security guard that takes on responsabillities for the police at certain locations, ure basically mandated by the police to carry a gun/use it at specific locations if theres a situation for it, but its much more restrictive when ure allowed to draw/fire it. We have skyddsvakter at places where it should be manned by police but there arent enough police officers to fill that post. To be a skyddsvakt u need prob the equivilant training of police officers in the US in certain states, however (ure not a police officer) theres a very clear destinction of when u can act, how u should act and where ure allowd to act. Ure only allowed to act in very "specific" situations such as in danger of whatever ure protecting/human life etc, and there needs to be without reasonable doubt. If u cannot prove that it was beyond resonable doubt (u are in the wrong) and will face the full weight of the law.

The police in France at the moment does not have to envy that of the USA in terms of gratuitous violence and the lack of training. For 2 years several people have been killed for refusing to comply, a case strongly reminiscent of that of G. Floyd, Cedric Chouviat was murdered by strangulation during a banal traffic check. During the demonstrations of the Yellow Vests dozens of people were blinded by LBD launchers. At the moment, during the demonstrations against the pension reform, the riot police are very violent, gauze, truncheon, use stun grenades and mutilate peaceful demonstrators. Yesterday a young woman of 17 lost her eye due to a tear gas canister which exploded on her head. Moreover, the UN has just condemned France for its methods of maintaining order and police violence.

On the one hand learning about the history of WWII in history class, and then seeing this nationalism in the US is at least disturbing.

10:26 German Cops are armed but you can`t imagine what paperwork and reporting they are forced to even when they shot just one bullet in the air as a warning shot. It is really the very very last way of choice to shot someone and this is luckyly very very rare here. So just follow their instructions, don`t be a karen, say as less as you possible can and be sure you have the right to claim everything after the situation if you feel treathening unfair afterwards. You really don`t have to be afraid to got shot in Germany when you avoid to do stupid things. In Germany the Police is your "Friend and Helper".

id say most cops are armed but theyre trained to consider using firearm as absolutely last resort, when all other oprions are exausted. In merica use of firearms are first, questions somewhere further down the line and de-escalation isnt even considered.

💥💥Well people don't have to worry about cops being trained correctly now considering that pretty much every major American city and even midsize city around the United States has a shortage of police officers now. I told people those protests in 2020 wasn't going to end well for them. New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Pittsburgh, Washington DC, Baltimore, Atlanta, Miami, New Orleans, Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee, Kansas City, St Louis, Houston, Dallas, Minneapolis , Phoenix, Charlotte, Portland, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver and many other places now have shortages of police officers. After that 2020 went down it was tones of police officers who retired, or they quit or they went to work for a small police county or a small town that's less stressful department.
