In most places it already is. Falsifying government documents. However it takes a DA that will press charges to enforce it and that doesn't happen because they need police cooperation on other cases against the public. Most of this stuff is already on the books... It is just rarely or never enforced.

@dirtydigger3218 Please read the case of Jordan v New London as it answers your question, legally. The specifics of the case Jordan v. New London, CT are important. 1. Level of Court: The ruling in Jordan v. New London, CT was issued by the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut on March 16, 1996. 2. Summary of the Case: • Background: Robert Jordan applied for a police officer position in New London, CT. He passed the written exam with a score of 33, significantly higher than the average score of 22. However, the city did not interview him or offer him the job. • Claim: Jordan filed a lawsuit against the city, alleging that their hiring practices violated his Equal Protection Clause rights under the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and Article 4, Section 20, of the Connecticut Constitution. He argued that the city's policy of not interviewing candidates who scored above a certain level on the written exam was discriminatory and unfair. • City's Argument: The city defended its policy by claiming it was intended to prevent "high turnover" among police officers. They argued that candidates who scored too high on the written exam were more likely to leave the force for other opportunities. • Court's Decision: The District Court sided with Jordan. They found that the city's policy was not justified by a compelling government interest and was therefore unconstitutional. The court ordered the city to interview Jordan and consider him for the job position based on his qualifications, not just his test score. 3. Further Information: The case of Jordan v. New London, CT is cited in various legal contexts related to employment discrimination and the use of standardized tests in hiring practices. • You can find more detailed information about the case in legal databases like Westlaw or LexisNexis. Courts, a Breakdown -- The "District Court" in the context of Jordan v. New London, CT refers specifically to the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut. This is a federal court, one of the 94 district courts within the U.S. judicial system. • Local Courts: These are the lowest level courts, generally handling minor offenses, traffic violations, and small claims cases. They vary by jurisdiction but are typically not involved in federal cases like Jordan v. New London. • County Courts: These courts handle more serious criminal cases and civil lawsuits within a specific county. They also vary by state and typically don't handle federal cases unless authorized by specific circumstances. • State Courts: These courts handle lawsuits and criminal cases related to state laws and regulations. They operate within each state and are separate from the federal court system. • Federal Courts: These courts handle cases involving federal laws, the U.S. Constitution, or disputes between citizens of different states. The United States District Court is the lowest level within the federal court system. In the case of Jordan v. New London, CT, the issue involved alleged violations of the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which falls under the jurisdiction of the federal court system. Therefore, the appropriate court to hear the case was the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut. Remember, legal information is complex and may not be a substitute for professional legal advice. If you have specific legal concerns, consulting with a qualified attorney is always recommended. Disclaimer: The above is for information, only. Do your own proper research. Edited for further clarification - @ZXLMaster

The executive branch cannot and will not police itself. Nor would we trust the legislative branch which is clearly bought and paid for by special interests. And not the judicial branch either since the DA - who is in bed with police - would never prosecute their “right hand.” We would have to create a community public entity that had prosecutorial powers and was outside of the three branches of government that would be the independent watchdog of the police, like the press which is the watchdog of government, except in my view, it shouldnt be a privately held for-profit institution (like the press) because that could easily be overtaken by private, moneyed special interests (oil, banks, Pharma, Bezos, etc) the same way that Bezos - who owns military contracts - bought the WaPo.

They probably had a picture and if you matched, their fear was reduced. In areas of high crime and peoples' bad behavior the officer is trained to be more aggressive than you. I am not saying they cannot behave badly, but have been trained to be aggressive if there is any challenge to their authority. I do mean this for both the people and how they are raised, and once people become officers and get this reinforced.

If you demonise the ones who would stand up, eventually you end up as it is now with no one stopping blatant abuse. @@jake8748 I’m not wrong to demand accountability and push the people in power to do the right thing. If this supposed cop wouldn’t press charges, then I’d prefer he hang it up. He’s not the type we need in law enforcement if the laws don’t extend to his co-workers. How about you let this guy with way more power than you or I to do something about the policing situation answer for himself. I asked him to clarify, not for some rando to assume his position and lick his well slobbered boot. Finally cops absolutely are the first line in the legal case. They suggest and write up the charges and then yes the prosecutors/DA decide if the charges are correct or are worth pursuing. However if cops just review the incident and then take 3 days off work as “discipline”, a prosecutor/DA may never even see the case. Juxtapose that situation with the cops being sent over with assault and battery charges, excessive force, false arrest, falsifying police documents etc and you begin to see why police are not held accountable.

This reminds me of the beginning of the Braveheart movie. Yelling “Tyrant” at cops in PROTEST is protected free speech

The cop who initiated all of this deserves to be in prison. His blue line gang buddies will protect him because they all want protection when they want to arrest someone because they don't like them. It boggles my mind how these cops can consider themselves the good guys when they're terrorizing innocent people over their egos and hurt feelings. These actions DO NOT make the community better or safer, or satisfy any type of justice, in fact quite the opposite.

This proof and evidence clearly shows that we need to separate from this evil and wicked system.

And the supervisor allowed this and the charges to happen! This is what's wrong with policing in America!

Supervisor and chief endorsed this behavior. Everyone involved should be fired and sued. Both cops deserve prison. Huge lawsuit, don't settle.

This would be so easy to fix. Make each police officer have liability insurance, so that when they get sued it's their own personal insurance that pays. Too many claims and they wouldn't be able to get insurance and therefore could no longer be a police officer. It works for doctors.

Sounds good. Unfortunately, they would all get raises to pay for their insurance from your tax dollars and they'd have to make more arrests and write more citations against the people who are already paying their salary so they could afford to pay for it. And since they investigate themselves, they would still rarely be held accountable. The citizen still loses.

@@joelmarcy8027I don't think officer X with a liability police insurance of 4,000/month willbe kept for long in the police force vs police A with a liability police insurance of $100/month. That's the point of the insurance. It raises when there's a claim. The insurance is dependent on each cop and how much did the insurance had to pay for hisbbad action.

The insurance companies already back this type of behavior. They are a large percentage of what's wrong with this country. Insurance companies and the banks own the police.
