Yea, Loads of people have sent me the link but it's not of the episode I was in. The stop was about 10 years ago and the dog passed away several years ago but the trailer lives on. As you say MOT compliant and I've attended RSPCA events with dog + trailer and they were positive about what I was doing .

As an ex-Paramedic I can speak from experience. It’s not the speed that kills you. It’s the sudden stop and the bits of metal slicing bits off that does it. As my ‘police’ driving instructor put it. “Speed is ok, where appropriate “.

I cruise around 80 where appropriate on the M62 keeping my distance and slowing down in heavy traffic. I always keep my distance and let tailgaters through. Tailgaters are the real problem and people not looking after their cars condition. Cheap tyres poor brakes and suspension will only lead to disaster. I started on motorcycles so understand defensive driving. Unfortunately I have returned from 20 Years abroad 13 years of that in Cyprus where the driving standards of the locals including the police is appalling and driving around Bradford I employ the same defensive driving technique I did in the middle east. If you don't drive like the local natives youre screwed. Wish the police would concentrate more on tailgaters and aggressive drivers and not the speed of people keeping their distance

They are indeed the most dangerous guys, but letting them through increases the problem because they will get even closer up the next car because you have demonstrated that their bullying works. Also, when you change lanes to let them through, and they accelerate in their impatience and hit you before you have fully cleared the lane, you will not get paid by insurance because you were the one changing lanes, not them. So as soon as somebody gets closer than 1.5 seconds behind you, you are actually stuck in that lane if you want to remain safe AND avoid insurance sodomy. Stay in your lane until they back up, then move over. It will teach them to sit at safe distance. I really don't care about speeders as long as they keep distance from everybody. While statistics will claim a causal link between speed and accidents, it's actually violations of distance and right-of-way that are the true causes of accidents. And intoxication, of course. Drunks are idiots, with or without cars. Drug intoxicated people are even worse.

He knew his speed and he was comfortable driving at that speed so its not hard to believe he drives at that speed regularly and I think the reason he hasn't got a ticket before is because the police who have caught him before have let him off with a warning due to him been a doctor due to professional curtesy. You could see how the police changed their attitude and once they found out he was a doctor and I am willing to be they only pressed the matter to get fine and points due to it all been on TV.

A policecar will have to follow a target vehicle and match their speed for 3/4 of a mile to use as evidence of speeding, unless the pursuit reaches 100mph, then it is an immediate stop. My guess is that they hadn't followed long enough at 90mph before the roadworks. Additionally, speeders have a history of increasing their speed even further once they see flashing lights so as to try to avoid punishment as they are also likely doing something else wrong. This makes them far more dangerous. The best tactic in these cases is to log the offence, and tail them until they leave the highway then make a stop.

I might be wrong since I'm not familiar with how the UK works, but here it always comes down to the cop's discretion, so it might be the same there? There's always a lot of factors to consider besides simply committing a traffic infraction, so most countries give cops some freedom to decide what they should do.

Some uncommon knowledge: there's a maximum speed limit for entering the shoulder of the road and in the US its 45 on the interstates - anything above that and you will be at fault for any collisions for any reason even if you didn't see a giant board with spikes in it.
