@@SuSpInTiOn I have a few theories on that. They want to look productive to their superiors. Also if a crime occurs in the area where they stopped you, they can link you to it and then ask you questions later as a witness or potential suspect. It's either one of those 2 or they want to build up information on you to make it easier to convict you if you're ever convicted of a crime later on.

@@galady8632it has been removed from the license in all states. That's why the igorant pig wanted him to provide it .... it's not on the license. You are NEVER obligated to provide your telephone number and he's right that it is a VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW for the cop to insist on getting it. The social security number plus address plus dob plus name is all the info a person needs to steal your identity. If YOU did not initiate a call or stop or whatever you should NEVER give your ssn. Now, I don't know if the military has changed this, but when I spent all 18 years of my childhood as an AF dependent my medical records were filed under my father's ssn. @Cat Buchanan You're wrong! They have access to all your details through the JDIC system the dispatcher runs your license number through. All (s)he has to do is hit one key on the keyboard and the system will pull up that number from either the drivers license database or any other database. This department is trolling for data for their local system so they can raise money for their dept directly when they sell it to information brokers.
