The Former officer's...letter to a Auditor. As a former officer (who has learned a lot from 1st Amendment Activists) I believe that what you are doing is long overdue. I have been watching all of you guys for a long time, and there are times when I see myself in the young officers who make fools of themselves for your cameras. Twenty years ago in my academy we didn't really spend much time on civil rights, which I see now is a shame. For the most part police officers are out there every night largely unsupervised, and for generations we have all been taught to "listen to the police". This combination is just one of the reasons that police misconduct and abuse is so common. It has happened over time, and we are used to it, and we just blindly obey without protest while our civil rights continue to be violated. Actually, many people arent even aware that police are violating their civil rights!...and so it goes unreported. Many times the police arent even aware they're in violation. They have learned the behavior from FTO's (Field Training Officers), and they are following the examples set by older officers who have learned it the same way for generations. It has never been questioned, and is now basically unwritten policy . I hope you will keep filming and bringing attention to these injustices. I really believe that you all are making a difference. Your videos are informative for both the police AND citizens. We all benefit from your work. When you hold up a mirror to police and they see themselves blatantly disregarding civil rights, being overbearing, unnecessarily confrontational, and just plain rude it forces them to take a hard look at themselves through our eyes. And I think most of them time, whether they immediately show it or not, they dont like what they see, and it may change how they conduct themselves on their next interaction, and the next, etc. It took decades of abuse, ignorance, and blind-eyes for the system to become this mangled. Now that you (and others like you) are putting a spotlight on it for the world to see I believe change is inevitable. The Former officer's...letter to a Auditor. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Former Cop's...letter to a Former officer. Former cop from Kansas City. I couldn't agree more. I can honestly say that many of these cops do not even realize how many of their regular practices are improper to illegal... When I came onto the job in the 90's, demanding id from nearly everyone was the standard, everyday thing to do...Older, experienced cops did it, so did I... Pretextual car stops that were mainly about running everyones name, passengers too... Searched every car we could...pulled people out of cars...cuffed people "just for my safety"... and all that bullcrap and a bag of chips.. Im not proud of it... I justified it to myself because i worked in a high crime inner city that was in the throes of a savage crack problem and also breaking its homicide record.. 10, 15, 20 calls a night... Everything i did was rationalized by somehow connecting it to my "safety" which WAS not bs... Ive survived a great many violent encounters involving someone legitimately trying to hurt me or worse.. Im feeling inspired... When i find the balls, i plan on getting a gopro and trying to do a little auditing of my own...partially to cleanse my conscience, but also because I'm older and more humble now and I want to be part of this movement in hopes that preserving and defending the constitution becomes the normal thing. I think there needs to be a sweeping, nationwide effort to retrain every single cop in America on constitutional law....especially the 1st. 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 14th amendments.. Like seriously....send them ALL to a comprehensive in-service and make them pass relevant, real world tests before they can answer calls. I want to audit, but I know that being former law enforcement will probably get me labeled a turncoat and put a target on me.. I would be good at it though....ive been on both sides. this channel inspires... @@TheGravygun I think it could be argued that snatching a pen from the cop in front of you is different from when they walk behind you and go for your wallet, which also happens to be in a sexual assault zone, without you knowing they're there. OP may have known there was a cop somewhere back there, but not his proximity or the actions he's taking since he's out of line of sight. So a purely reflexive counter in perceived self-defense would be a solid argument in court, though yes he would be arrested for the attack. It was also irresponsible for the LT to reach into his pocket without gloves on or asking if there's anything that could hurt him during the search, running the risk of a needle poke if the guy he's groping has needles in his pocket.

If there is a lawsuit paid out it is from the taxpayers. Things changed in a few states in the past 2 years. I believe Colorado and NY or NJ have gotten rid of qualified immunity. So now you can actually go after them personally in those states. Take their homes, vehicle and pension. They would have no problem seeing you lose everything so do not hold back on them. I remember this case when it came to court and the guy was found guilty of some BS charges that they tacked on because he didn’t “explain himself more” to the cops. It was ridiculous. He didn’t say he was exceeding his rights so the court said he couldn’t rely on those rights because they thought how could the cops know what rights he was exceeding or just being “difficult” 🤣🤣 it’s ridiculous.

Firstly, I read the court documents that were uploaded to the Des Moines newspaper article. That was interesting and educational. Next, I listened to the entire thirty-four-minute audio recording of the two attornies battling it out. (I wished there was a video, but I understand why there wasn't) Then while listening to the defendants' attorney, I quickly picked up on the fact that she was stuttering, backtracking, and at times had a complete loss of words to represent her case. In short, she came totally unprepared. Lastly, from reading the comments posted prior to mine, I discovered that the previous ruling was in fact overturned as it should have been.
