Never , never give permission to search your vehicle. This is giving up your rights. Unless they have probable cause or reasonable suspicion they must articulate the charge. This is slowly turning into a police state. Officers will understand when they are no longer employed by law enforcement and get the same treatment as everyone else.

It's not only black Americans. I'm sure blacks are disproportionately more likely to be stopped and that is sad. However most cops that are treating people unfairly (sadly=most cops it seems) are targeting based on their perception of the victims ability to defend themselves in my experience. Based on social economic situation, as they see it.

The good Samaritan was you, with your camera. The people in that car didn't know it and probably never will. Most people are not "rights aware" and, again, never will be.... until its too late. "yes officer.. we will let you illegally search the car and detain us and even put us all in handcuffs AND give you lots of smiles while we cheerfully submit without question about your infringement of our rights and that you could have planted anything in the car if the camera guy wasn't recording"... Hey man love your work, some of these people have no idea what you do for them, hopefully you won’t give up on helping people that seem a bit ungrateful, I hope this doesn’t come off as criticism, but I think it would be cool if you had a little bit of follow up as to why these people gave\give up their rights to begin with, what did the cops say to them so that they would willingly go into handcuffs, allowed the vehicle to be searched, and in other instances forced to show ID when there was no probable cause to stop them, and to search their person when they live in a concealed and carry state and are not showing any aggression towards the unlawful search request outside of just asking why the hell they’re doing it, just a little something to bring a little closer to your good work.

A lot of "why's" come to mind. This, at first glance, looks like professional conduct by the arresting officers. What are the citizens being arrested for though? Why are they detained? Is this a legal stop? Are civil rights being violated?

It should not take a camera to keep people from going to jail over a traffic stop. For 60 years I drove a car. I experienced a few traffic stops. Except for one stop I never had to exit the car. I was never searched. One day the police entered my sub division with lights on. I drove by a side street and foun them. I did not stop and continued my journey. When I stopped to make a turn I saw them in my rear view mirror. After the turn I pulled over and they had me exit my truck. I asked why they stopped me, He said they would tell me. He cuffed me and looked me over. He told me then that a guy had been stabbed and that the guy who did it drove silver truck. Of course my truck was silver.

From what I understand of the law once they place cuffs on you, you are under arrest. If they are detaining them there is no need for cuffs. They were fishing and hoping to come back with some warrants. This is a law suit for unlawful detainment. The cops that they were going to find something in the car to justify handcuffing these people.

The US Supreme Court held that the police can make you get out of your car after a valid traffic stop. This ruling applies to the driver and all the passengers in a car. Because of this ruling in Pennsylvania vs. Mimms, a person must exit their car if ordered to do so by the police. The current state of search and seizure law allows a police officer to order a driver and the passengers out of vehicle that is stopped for even a minor traffic violation. However, the law does not require you to answer any questions or to consent to a search of your vehicle.
