A portrait of Svein Kojan from Oslo, Norway, a painter of masters, who spends his time as a pensioner copying Rubens, Rembrandt, Vermeer and other masters of painting. He has also crafted knives, jewellery and instrumnets.

I am surprised to see that he keeps his reference photo to the right of his canvas. Being right handed, it might be more convenient to move it to the left. Then, he wouldn't have to keep turning his head. I enjoyed watching this. I've made copies of works by Vermeer, Hammershøi and Cezanne.

I would imagine his copies could fetch very good prices if he chose to sell them.

To legitimize the process of copying from the masters, the artist needs to be vastly more skilled, hard working, and intensely sensitive to nuances than anything shown here.
