George Gordon says rhe picture might be maked into a play. Yes: That was what Oscar Wilde did, and after him, Richard Strauss compose an opera. In those pieces Salomé didn't content herself with looking as her mother touched the profet's tongue (which is symbolic in írsele), but he kissed him on the lips. Great scandal!. The censorship in Vienna made it impossible to play the piece in the court's Opera House, it had to be performed in Graz (1906), after it was premiered in Dresde.
