Ive uploaded many of the same type spray videos. What would you like to see? Certain colors? How to's? undercoat? Topcoat? Gun spraying issues?

The "TA DA!" flare after the white primer makes me laugh every time. And yes, I've rewatched that part several times. Thanks for these videos!

Good day Jay , I saw a video of yours but can't remember which one where you spray Olympic white before a solid colour and I was wondering why Olympic white instead of primer ? You're the best !

Hi. On small detail first, we use clear lacquer sealer first before any color. Then that dries and color is applied. Most of the time a simple white lacquer basecoat is sprayed before the main color. That is done only because that's how fender did it back in the 50's and 60's. Occasionally someone will order a color sprayed over another color and it will get relic'd. Which reveals the underlying color. Some people order Olympic White as the first color followed by Fiesta red or whatever they might want.

I built a painting rig similar to yours and painted my strat Tahitian coral recently; It still had the original grain filler/shellac on the body as it was previously sunburst, so the finish came out pretty good. Just out of curiosity, how do you fill the grain before you paint so the texture of the grain doesn't show through the paint? I've ran into that issue on other instruments I've finished

If it's raw wood then we use a grainfiller. It's like a paste you wipe on then wipe off. Let that dry for a day then spray several coats of undercoat or primer depending on what finish your going for. Then when that's dry sand it flat with a block

Thanks for the reply! You wouldn't know the brand and type by chance, would you? I have done quite a bit of searching/research and all I've been able to find is hardware 'wood filler for filling holes; if you use it on grain, it just sands off completely as it's a bit too thick

@@sandsthirtytwo7852 There's many brands. Sanding it is sometimes part of the process. If the grainfiller is down in the pourous areas of the grain, you will not be able to sand it out. Try Mohawk

Ok I'll check into that. Thanks!!

I think it's discontinued by now,but was fascinated with the candy cola finish.It appears to be actually 2 finishes. Also I havent seen a seafoam yet, unless I missed. it. Do these finishes get sanded ? Or is this it?
@thenameless32712 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure they are sanded after they are painted

These finishes get cleared the next day. Candy cola is a difficult color to spray. Gold metallic base then a tobacco like candy color. I haven't seen it in a while. It was a production line color. But I did a couple in the custom shop. Sea foam is pretty standard, I can do that.

How you handle with all that paint cans, have to wash every time?

It's easy after a while

Did they actually have a custom order come in for a roasted maple body to be painted ... geesshhh. Seems a shame.
