Smart operation. While other spends thousands a month running aquaculture facilities this guy just uses the ocean. I imagine he produces some spawning cycles and splitting that even benifit and put back into the natural reef without him even meaning too.

Surely an environmentally sound idea to keep naturally growing corals and algae in the shadow of the coral racks and to have the workers trample over the natural coral beds! Perhaps you should try "coral trees" as used by the Coral Restoration Foundation in Key Largo, Florida, USA, installed over barreen sand fields where they have the least environmental impact.

The area they are growing in is a dead zone (bleached) you need special permission from the government to grow coral in the ocean Look at the waltsmith project how they add small pieces of coral to the ocean and build these beautiful reefs

I also really wish there was a follow-up video to show how this initiative has progressed. Maybe there is one and I am not aware of it? Also, I couldn't help but notice the guys trampling over live coral in order to plant the new coral, is the coral they are walking on being destroyed, or is it not that fragile? Lastly, it seems like the process could be more localized to reduce the amount of plastic, styrofoam, jet fuel, and all other unhealthy environmental behavior/ products in these amazing projects. Was there no way to do this locally to decrease the cycle of solving a problem while also creating a problem?

No It doesn't because they are taking away some Buds and planting them elsewhere. Not destroying the economy, they are trying to Rebuild the Reefs destroyed by the Ships and Warships

It’s a good initiative for Marin life also the worse part I have seen in the video is they are vanishing the natural eco system by footing on reefs while they take care of their farm.. so this is just a making money project,, and what you selling is, the future of Indonesians,,,
@carloscaaete
@carloscaaete 4 жыл бұрын
It is VERY VERY small impact, not "vanishing a natural ecosystem". You are being exaggerated here. For several HUNDREDS of years the Indonesians have been fishing at those coral reefs, footing on them, taking fish, crabs, shrimp, oysters... where is the destruction of the enviroment?? It´s totally sustainable. Plus that, you DO know that the area showed in the video is DEAD ZONE coral reef, bleached, don´t you???

Is it possible to use eco friendly supporting table to grow corals at sea ? Bcz u guys r using metal perforated steel tables .
@OurCoralReef

Its not necessarily steel it can be aluminum Steel would rust really bad The ocean is very hard on these things with waves and big fish so they need to be really strong

Won't it be Great if India starts Coral Farming on the Union Territories and the waters which come under our Governance to increase Economic growth and Employment. Many are Unemployed around the Coastal Areas. Since Centuries we've simply taken away Coral wherever it's found since its popular and loved , without thinking about the consequences

Aren't they harming the already existing natural coral reef when placing those metal tables for growing those fragments? You notice they place them over corals already there which blocks sunlight and even in the video you see them stepping over existing corals. Food for thought.
@OurCoralReef
@OurCoralReef 6 жыл бұрын
The places they can put the “tables” are heavily regulated by the country Its areas that are bleached and they are trampling on dead coral Dead coral is called bleached coral because they loose there color as if they were dipped in bleach Live coral are full of vibrant color They also “plant” some of this farmed coral back into the wild to build it up again

Problem is color loss from farmed corals. You don’t get the brilliant colors of hard corals like in the wild.

Well, it's coral farming, not coral restoring
@OurCoralReef
@OurCoralReef 6 жыл бұрын
Short answer: yes its coral farming Long answer: They give back a percentage of the coral they grow and “plant” them in dead areas to regrow the reef so part of it is restoration

Using a natural reef to place metal tables to grow corals for money is wrong. You are destroying a natural reef. You notice in the video that the original reef and corals under those tables are dead, dying and receive no sunlight to assist in growth. You also see your workers trampling, walking over the natural existing reef. All in the name of profit. Shame.
