Great review! I've been considering integrating one of these for my freshwater drip system at home. Overkill, but it'd give me peace of mind.

Welcome to the good life! Nothing better than making your own water.. Use mine attached to my bathroom faucet and remove between uses.. Haven't had to change any cartridges in a full year.. BRS 4 stage 75gpd is the one I have.. Advantages of a small reef tank haha... Nice vid

John, there is a channel named Bulkreefsupply that has a series of videos that are extremely informative. If you decide you want coral, especially hard coral, there are a lot of steps that can be very confusing to beginners.

How much water does it need to push through the system (and down the drain) to produce 1 gallon of RO water? Our water rates are going up due to drought and municipal water projects, so wasting water can be really expensive for me.

Daniel it is like 4 to 5 gallons of waste to 1 gallon RO in most systems . I found a system on the Internet some were maybe you tube that did like 1 to 1 but it was more money . We are only allowed 47 gallons a day per person were I live

I would love an RO system for my 15 & 3 gallon freshwater tanks since I’m spending money on water jugs for water changes because my tap water is so dirty I’m just not sure which one to get

I use RO for my African cichlids since my well water has high nitrates. What would you recommend adding to my water for peacocks and naps

Would an HMA filter system work for discus instead of an RO System. I heard an HMA system can be an in-line system for water changes instead of using a trash container

Hi John! Nice informative video. Before using the RO filtration, what were you doing to have the water cleaned and ready to go for the Discus? Did you try to remove the chlorine and chloride from the water only? Thanks for all the info and also for the great referral on the other youtube channels

+RadicalMT15 I keep Stendker Discus that do not require r/o water. I got the r/o system specifically for the salt water tank.

Can the system sit on the floor? I have a floating sink in the bathroom I’d have to put it under the countertop and splice it into the piping

Great review dude! maybe a stupid question but... you still use water conditioners after putting it in your tank right? ive never used RO water. and what other fish do you think would benefit from RO water?
@goldenskinmaster23
@goldenskinmaster23 8 жыл бұрын
You would not need to put any conditioners in the water because rodi water is basically pure water at 7 ph and zero dkh. If you have freshwater, especially cichlids, then you would need to put in a buffer of some sort to get the water at the proper hardness. In saltwater, the salt itself creates the right conditions for the fish and coral.

Can I use a inline carbon filter instead of RO system? Will I still have to use conditioner/chemicals?

Hi Does it adjust PH
@goldenskinmaster23
@goldenskinmaster23 8 жыл бұрын
also John, saltwater do not like soft water. Infact the proper hardness and ph of the water is about the the same as a malawi cichlid. You use an rodi system for reef tanks because saltwater animals, especially coral are more sensitive to the harmful chemicals and metals in tap water and it will help stabilize the ph. You can get away with using only a dechlorinater, but they not are not as near as consistent and reliable as ro water.

You shouldn't need to replace the membrane every year. You replace the carbon, sediment, and DI filters. The membrane should last years.

hi John sounds great.. wanted to know that does this unit remove the nitrates from my tap water? as it's very high out the tap here in England
@goldenskinmaster23
@goldenskinmaster23 8 жыл бұрын
Yes, a rodi system creates very close to pure water at 7 ph and zero everything, including nitrate.

Do you have a TDS meter? Am thinking not. But you should get one. Most like a TDS reading of 0. But pick a number and Chang things when the TDS meter gets to that number. Just like a water Chang. When you test if something is to high. You can fix it. Your TDS meter ( total dissolved solids) will tell you. How dirty your RO water is.
@dudev
@dudev 8 жыл бұрын
Even with a high-end RODI system you'll never get the TDS to 0 ppm. But it will get close to zero, under 5 ppm. If a TDS meter is reading zero, it's not very precise.
@Zapton5

+dudev if your looking at small units you mite be right. But my boss is wanting a 300 gallon tank at the smallest. and if I can get a 300-gallon tank looking good. I'm going to go ahead and start my tank maintenance business. so with goals like this. I will not only be looking at high quality but very high quality Equipment.
@dudev
@dudev 8 жыл бұрын
Victor Baker -- First, it's completely unnecessary to use 0 ppm water, even if you could produce it. As long as metals and phosphate are reduced, everything is fine. Second, it's a question of chemistry and technology, not money. I collect water-testing equipment. Even the most expensive TDS meters or conductivity meters have a +/- 2% accuracy. And some substances are not even in ionic form, so they can't be detected by conductive methods. More expensive is not always better.

Can you do me a favour and move that water away from all those electrical outlets please. If the sensor malfunction, the water is going to spill all over them. About the system, you're are not the first to have problem with those rings. Imo the company should revised the design of all the rings.
